My buddy just through his BS belt for the 2nd on his 93 Laser RS (AWD). 1st time he got lucky and didn't take out the head but not so lucky this time. Well I haven't putted the valve cover yet, but when you try to start it the eng sounds like it has no compression at all. He wants 1500 for it as it sits. the car has about 120k on the chassie no idea about the eng (6 bolt swap).

Here are the mods I can think of.

272 cams
SAFC II
GM MAS and trans
IPT boost controller (AT)
3000 stall converter
PLX wide band
3' mid pipe and cat back
Xs engineering FMIC
EVO III 16G
Slowboy racing O2 housing
650cc injectors
Supra TT fuel pump
EVO III exhuast manifold
EGR block off
GND wires
Eprom ECU unsocketed

I'm sure I forgot something, but opinions on if it's worth 1500 with a bad head.

BTW the paint is faded and the interor is in good shape at lest from the back seats fwd

that car with a good motor should move with the auto. So maybe its worth buying fixing and racing it. Could also fix and resell it to.
bump for some of the more experianced dsm'rs to comment.

I know the car would have been in the 12's cause he kept up with my Spec V from a roll and the Spec V ran 13.2

My bet with good tune and good launch car coulda hit high 11's. drop a 20g or bigger on there and hit 10s.
That is all with a good motor thou.

Yeah, I'd say he should be able to get 12-1500 for it-that also depends on if there is any body damage, rust, etc.... I've seen bigger piles go for more, though.

When you say BS are you talking about the balance shaft belt? If so how would that affect the head. Or are you referring to the Timing belt? Either way PM me some pics.

The BS (balance shaft) belt sit behind the timing belt so if it goes it takes out the TB too. Last time he got lucky and the BS belt didn't take out his TB. This time after I finally got to tear in to it it was his crank pulley that came apart and melted the lower timing belt cover. here is the damage so far.

I'm still working on tearing the head off which I should have off by next weekend hopefully and we'll see how bad it really is :( . If he parts it out I'll let every one know, but I got dibs on the block (6 bolt) .

So the crank pulley came apart and ate into the tbelt cover and then ate into the tbelt? Why the hell was he driving that car? It would sound like a rod knock from the crank pulley smackin the cover.

Well it didn't sound like a rod knock at all. It just sounded llike grinding. I looked at the crank pulley and it wasn't moving like it was before when the stock one went bad. Both of us thought it was another bad alt again (rebuilt autozone pos). The car had been sitting for about 3 weeks waiting on parts rrt rear break caliper and break line and two alts. It wasn't making any other noise except for the rear break dragging before the crank pulley went.
