ummm...

get him to teach you?

Press in the clutch, turn on the car

While holding in the clutch, put it into first gear. Then rev it to like 2.5k and HOLD it there. Then let out out the clutch slower than you think necessary - and since it will be your first time make sure it is really slow. Eventually the clutch will start grabbing and you will move forward.

Everything is simply repetition from there. Just don't think about it.

LOL. My parents made me drive my moms 02' Astro van home from PennDOT then when I got home, an hour later, my dad had me driving his car (now mine) which is a 5 speed and it has a Centerforce dual friction clutch so it grabs better than normal. He had me practice in my high schools parking lot. O ya, watch out for having to stop on upward hills... I used to either stall it or give it to much gas and end up spinnin the tires and going backwards anyhow LOL.

Feel where the engagement point is on the clutch, it'll feel like it grabs then gives, even when you're stopped and the car is off.

Find a flat parking lot. In neutral, no gas, slowly, slowly ease up on the clutch. You'll eventually feel the car start moving forward, push the clutch back down. Try that a few times, then add a little gas a little before where the car would start moving forward, and you're off.

Then find a SMALL hill/incline and learn to hold the car there with just the clutch... it's not great for the car and not good to do regularly, but probably the same as stalling and will help you learn about clutch engagement.

Someone's bound to disagree with me but I think that's an easy/quick way to learn

edit: You go to HGP? I went there, graduated two years ago.

you can try the ebrake tactic on really bad hills. Have the ebrake engaged while holding in the clutch, start slipping the clutch and when you start feeling clutch resistance let the ebrake down.

I have done this a total of once, mainly because heel-toeing it is a bit easier for me.

practice, i taught myself in a parking lot to an office building for starters, with a crazy incline.
The thing that i first learned how to do was find the last possible point that the clutch will hold the car before it stalls. Learned this by trial and error(lots of it). Occasionally ill use the ebrake for hills, like if someone is right on my bumper. After driving it for a while now i forget how much it took to learn it at first. You be fine after practicing enough.

Wanna teach me? I think my legs actually prevent me from doing it.

When I was 15 yrs old, down in tennessee my dad put me on a really steep hill, car facing uphill, and had me let off the brake give the car gas and keep it completely steady... then let off the clutch and drive a few feet, then slow down and do it all over again. Then he had me turn the car around and do the same thing except in reverse.

I had to keep doing that til I got it down...

needless to say ive never stalled on a hill since that, lol.

Actually Heel-Toe isn't really done with your heel and toe...:screwy:

Put your foot with the arch of your shoe and some of your toe on the brake, then roll your foot to the right to rev the engine while still braking. This is really only used on a track though, so you can smoothly decelrate, rev-match, and downshift all in one quick move!

I bought my first car stick, had no idea how to do it. My dad drove it home for me. I told him to take me to an empty parking lot and leave me and i would be home when i learned how to drive it haha

Wouldn't that wear down the clutch quicker than normal. You should release the clutch as you press the accelerator down. Not after.

And, I've never used the e-brake on hills. I'm just a pro like that. ;)

When the clutch is fully dis-engaged and you are revving the car, the clutch isn't touching the flywheel.

Doing the hill-hold thing with the car is substantially worse than doing a really really slow start and slipping the clutch excessively.
