so im looking to sell my car  becuase i need to get something a little less high maintnence... ive been havin alot of problems with the z and im basiclly asking you sti owners if ur car is high maintnence as well. it just seems to me that the sti would b a more practical daily driver than the z
feel free to throw ur .02 in

well.......i dont think its high maintnence, it only kills you on gas if u drive hard, i dont mind the gas prices........i just fill up and go. other than that my answer would be NO

yea i tend to agree. i dont hear many sti owners complaining about anything. i say go for it and get rid of the Z if its givin you trouble. i'm actually surprised that it is.

What kind of trouble? Isn't it under warranty? That engine may be new to nissan but its been around for a while in Peugeots, I thought they worked out all the kinks.
i dont know much about both them cars, but id think the 350z would be less maintaince then an sti. reliability wise. im sure the sti is more fun too. whats wrong with ur car?

It depends on what you define as 'high maint."
A set of pads and rotors will run you prolly $550-600 f/r if installed yourself. The first set of pads is covered be the warranty at the dealer, if bought new of course.
Clutches are pricey, and far from easy to install, but this should only be a concern if you are going for very high power. Mine has lasted me well through the factory warranty with a good bit more power, and anything but driving soft on it.
If you want it to be faster, it will cost you. Tires aren't too bad, as long as you don't feel the need to own the super jammy race tire. I have used kumho 712's, and found they were nice for every day driving, though they did freight train a bit near the end.
There are a smaller selection of wheels for the car, but 17"s look fine, and can be had for a reasonable price.
Day to day maint. isn't too bad.

The VQ is a Peugeot design?? I don't know who told you that. The engine is used in the Renault Espace, but it's 100% Nissan.

Friend has a 350z, he's had it into the shop for a driveshaft problem.......maybe a rearend problem...on of the two. (covered under warranty though) Plus he has told me NUMEROUS stories about people turboing that engine and it going boom. True, it could be tuning.....but he has told me far too many stories of what he reads on his forum.
I have had NO problems (knock on wood) with my STi other than the typical 04 STi strut clunk (just need to grease em), and one of my parking lights burnt out the other day.
Just my .02
P.S. Troll some of the forums, learn all you can.

well ive had the car for two months now.. and after a week of owning it i needed a new driver side window motor... with only 18k miles so im thinking wtf?... then 2 weeks later i have trouble going from 2nd to third... and i found out thats a common problem with the z's so that was under waranty but the window isnt... and now it doesnt seem to b running as well and i rarely drive my car hard... :( so im most likley gettig rid off it

Problems I've had with mine up to 37K miles:
Rear view mirror just cracked one day - Replaced under waranty
Right Rear power window switch stopped working - Replaced under waranty
Over 1 year with 400whp.
Over 2 years with 330whp or more.
I did put new pistons in it when I replaced the clutch (engine was out). Engine looked brand new on tear down.
I don't drag race it or really lanch it (don't need to), but it does see full boost of 21psi and redline everytime I get in it.
