Im kind of new to the forum and dont have anything done to my car, with the exception of the Tein H springs it came with. I was thinking of eventually doing a swap for a JDM Sti motor and 6 speed tranny whats involved with this kind of swap besides a ton of money and time? I am kind of new to this kind of thing so forgive me if i sound like a noob. I also wanted to know if this kind of thing would not be good for a car thats a daily driver.

What are you asking? The parts that you need? Cost? Etc..

whats involved besides a lot of money and time?

Nothing if you are getting someone else to do it.

If you are going to do it by yourself?

This...

Parts, Cost and reliability
Depends, depends, depends

Parts - Well, subaru made like 123874638945234 different motors (variants included, Type R, RA, Spec C, STi, etc etc)

Cost - How old of a motor do you want?

Reliability - You gonna drag it every other day?

This isn't a question we can answer for you. How the hell would we know what you want?

I had planned on getting it done by someone but those pictures really helped me make up my mind.

It should take you to the Scooby Tech section, but maybe perhaps you need to register. I didn't think you would have to, but maybe so. It takes me straight there though.

Hmmm...well, you don't have to do it. There is an excellent write up that you will be able to see if you do so. You could get a lot of great knowledge from it I think.

There is no write up that can adequately prepair you - there is so much little stupid **** that you will need to compensate for when you do this swap - putting the motor in is easy, making it work and wiring? Thats the pain

I could have sworn there is a japanese EJ257...

But thats only on the new age imprezas like 04+ I think (post bugeye)

I would go for a 2.0L block personally regardless, either EJ20K or EJ207

Here is some of the older engine codes -

This write up covers all of that. Every little detail. Even goes over extra tidbits if needed during the swap. So I would say there is a write up that can prepare you.

ideal way to do it is buy a front clip, so you have everything you need to swap over. its a pretty big undertaking though, so i dont know if its really the best solution for you.

What impreza in japan comes with a 2.5L? I am pretty sure they are all 2.0's, unless your talking about a forester or something.

yeah that would be alot of work but would be a good way to do it, im probably stupid for asking about this anyway right now since i wont be doing for awhile. i just wanted to get some opinions of people who actually know what their talking about unlike me lol

I don't even know if the FSTi's came with 2.5Ls - Why the hell are they giving the US 2.5Ls and not japan? Eh, subaru is wierd, whatever.

Your gonna need an avcs wiring kit if u intend on using the avcs. If you want a motor that won't give you any problems. Look for a version 7. Forged rods, pistons, crank. Built motor that will last as high as 500whp. I have mine for sale...needs to be rebuilt because of drinking some water but I'm taking offers for it!!! Good Luck!!!

yeah not ready yet but forged is always better than cast ill keep that in mind. good luck with the sale

forged is stonger then cast but i dont know if i would say better. Most forged parts put more wear and tear on a motor.

If theres nothing wrong with your motor now, i would just stay with that. The ej205 can hold 300whp for a long time with a good tune.....it doesnt seem like your looking for much more power then that so why fix something thats not broke?

I would have to say that the 2.2 has been the best engine Subaru has made. It has held up strong in every single car and is durable enough to be boosted, too! The Jap's motors are always sweet though..

id definitely recommend paying someone to swap a v7 in for you. its ur best bet dollar for dollar.

buy a gruppe-s race motor. It's a built 2.5L for $2,699 shipped. It's just a shortblock so you have to re-use your heads, intake mani, etc but you can always just sell your ej205 block for some cash.

If you want bang for your buck do an EJ20K motor - v7 is really expensive compared to the older EJ207/EJ20Ks mainly because of the all forged internals and AVCS
