My friends and I have been on a ghost kick lately and we're looking for some scary places to check out in southeastern PA. The community center we work out at is supposedly haunted and tonight the janitor left the door that seperates the weight room from the rest of the place open so we figured we'd check the place out at night. There's supposed to be a sub-basement with tunnels that run for miles to a nearby river which were used as part of the underground railroad at one point in time. Anyway we were looking around for a while and conluded that the boarded up door we discovered on the first floor must lead to the basement. Not wanting to break into anything, we set our sites on the attic, supposedly where a former resident of the place died. So we end up back in the hallway near where the boarded up basement door was. As I'm slowly leading the way up the steps I look back towards my friends and notice that the door we had walked through and left open like 10 minutes before was slowly starting to close behind us. So we quick jump down the steps and grab it just before it locks us in. That door was open for 10 minutes without even moving, but it closes behind us....weird. It turned out that attic was locked so we next we headed into the locker room. There's this one door with no knob or handle, just a key hole. So my one friend pounds on it a few times for whatever reason, but then the damn thing started to slowly open... We quick tried to grab it once the shock wore off, but it closed tight and locked just before I could get my hands on it. So we didn't see any ghosts or things like that, just had a couple freaky experiences. Anyway now were hooked and really wanna go check out some more creepy places where we can roam around freely. Anyone know any good spots besides Pennhurst?

Pick up a 'Weird Pennsylvania' or 'Weird New Jersey' book. They both have some good places to check out.

If you want to take a ride, over in Medford NJ they do "Jersy Devil" trips into the pine barrans. I noticed it while I was reading our local sales & events paper. I will probably do it this year seeing how come March I will be living in Florida.

I dont know if this place is the same, but ive heard of a place (also a covered bridge) where you turn your head lights off and drive through it at night and when you emarge the other side of the bridge there are baby hand prints on the sides of the car. Ill try to find the name of it.
Come to chester county, there is a stone railway underpass near my house that has a legend that a woman hung herself there and it has been haunted ever since. Its one of those tunnels that is so dark that even in the day you have to put your lights on. Some people say the rope she hung herself with is still there....
you guys should camp near it and check it out.

It's referred to as "Cry Baby Bridge." I couple of people I used to work with back in HS claimed that they went there and you can hear babies crying (tf???). When they left, they claimed to have found baby hand prints on their bumpers.

I heard a rumor that one of these local shut down looney bins has pressure operated switches on the inside of cells that close and lock doors behind you. More specifically, that the state gov't goes in and cleans out bodies annually.

I havent heard anything about that, but that would suck. Ive heard stories of people being killed but it was generally by one of the bums who the happened to walk in on.

done it numerous times and still havn't seen or heard anything. Ever been on sawmill road? "The gates of hell"...? Its creepy back there. One day me and a friend were in another friends truck bed on halloween goin down that road, and it was SCARY! I mean like...wolves howling and sh*t. And I've heard stories about the old mansion that is now torn down, like kids would go up there, and get stoned thrown at them, and hear little kids laughing and stuff.

'Cry Baby Bridge' is the Van Sant covered bridge in NoHope. It was fun back when I was in high school, but now the area is toooo developed.
There are several 'gravity hills'. The one that I tried years ago is on Holicong Road near Lower Mountain Road? I think... It works, but it is just an illusion. The road is actually flat, but for some strange reason, it appears to be a slight decline no matter what direction you travel. There were always rumors of some satanic church in that area.

Careful if you go out to Byberry. There are state-employed security guards stationed there 24 hours a day, and they do regular patrols with some serious spotlights.
Also, the threat of getting your ass busted is nothing compared to sucking down some of the asbestos they've got in the place. There are no windows in the buildings anymore, so they become wind tunnels which stir up all the crap and it rockets through the places. The security guards who kicked me out said that on sunny days, you can see the dust blasting out the windows. Unsavory.

well its well know certain places have a greater gravitational pull than others, gravity hill for example allows a grapefruit and car to roll at the same speed. a science experient? maybe. worth wasting your time checking out? no.
theres a spot in oregon in a forest where you can almost stand parallel to the ground without any sense of falling or awkwardness

this is the "gravity hill" I know of also. you put the car in neutral and roll ever so slightly up hill. but like you said the road is pretty flat so its not like you a being pulled up a huge hill, just an illusion. the satanic church is futher up the narrow hill. That was the king of all scary back when I was in high school. Ever hear of challenging the "White Knight"? rumor was you go into the semetary next the church. find the grave stone that is the only one backwards from all the others. knock on it three times and say "i challenge the white knight" if you didn't run to the fence before he did you would hear him laughing and you would be dead in a couple days or whatever. I had enough balls to get the fence and when I saw the graveyard was on a down sloping hill I was like I don't think so! haha!!!!

an abondoned church sounds pretty creepy, do you know if you can get into it or is it all locked up? We're looking for an old building where we can just roll up and get into without to much trouble. I'll keep up the google'n

Scary neighborhood with all kinds of thugs in the mean streets on Newtown. Check it out. lol
They may even take your wallet.
There's a place in Havertown right off of West Chester Pike (Rt. 3). I can't remember the exact street names and such, but I can drive to it. It's an old school and mental institution on a multiple acre lot.. its a big place. It's supposidly enhabited by entities, etc. I've never been there, but I've seen the gates to the place.. it's really eerie. I'm pretty sure during the day it's watched but at night, you can get in there and not get caught. My friends went int here and said they went up to the one building... and looked in the window and one of the lights was on in the place.... and it's been abandoned for many years. weird.
there's also "satanville" down rt. 1 near delaware just past glenn mills and cheney. there's a satanic church, a satanist colony.. and down one of the streets, all of the trees are slanted away from the evil.. it's really weird there. If you snoop around a lot you'll get followed by some of the colonists. be careful there.

well you beat him to the fence!! Do any of you guys remember hearing things as a kid that like, if you go in the bathroom, turn the lights off, look in the mirror, and say "bloody mary" or "candy man" 3 times, when you turn the lights on you'll see them in the mirror behind you?

I lived about 5 minutes away from byberry all my life. Alot of friends have gone in and some say they seen/heard crazy stuff while others have had no problems. A lot of homeless people i heard lived in there so for most part i garuntee it was them. They also always had security gaurds there to.
They have recently started tearing it down thou. Its funny seeing it all my life then they start knocking it down and cutting trees and bushes down and a whole new view of it is seen. The place was HUGE! I kinda wish i woulda went in but never wanted to risk getting arrested.

I've been looking into the "satanville" or "house of the unholy" as I have also heard it called. I found a huge thread about the place on a supernatural website and some of the stories coming out of there are really bizarre. People seeing strang animals that they couldn't identify and being followed by pick-up trucks w/ their lights off until your a few miles away. I read there is an old guard station by the gates with 5 red pickups sitting outside and if you drive by the gates to the old house too many times one will start following you. I read one story about 2 kids hiding along the road there to really scare their friends. According to the kid that was there they heard branches and breaking and stuff, but figured it was deer or something. Then a few minutes later it got louder and closer and when they turned around they saw a man peeking around the tree at them. The kid claims to have said something like "on the count of three lets make a run for it". So the kid wispers: "One...Two..." and the guy behind the tree says "THREE!". The kid says they made a run for it and met up w/ their friends. They drove back to the same spot like 3 minutes later and the guy was standing up on the bank by the road and he supposedly starting chasing their car as they sped off. Stories like this got me really interested, but then someone else posted that they tried to walk onto the property really early one morning and here met by 4 guys on quads and one huge dude on foot who said he was trespassing. The guy claimed that eventually the guy who walked him back to the road loosened up and bit and became friendly and answered some of his questions about the place. I don't know if any of this is true or not, but i'm prolly going to roll up on the place tonight with 3 or 4 of my friends and see for myself.

If anybody has a government I.D. card, you can get onto Ft. Dix (in jersey) and go to Wofford (believe thats the name) Hospital. Story goes that the military was doing crazy medical experiments on soldiers back in the day and NOBODY was allowed access and it was all super top secret. Years later they completely filled in the basement with concrete so that there was no evidence of anything that happened there. So know there is supposed to be a door on the first floor that you open and it leads to nowhere and its filled with concrete from said stairway that used to be there. A coworker of mine went over there a few years ago and found the doorway, and he said it was creepy as hell and they heard all kinds of crazy noises while they were around the area of the filled in basement. And this was in the daytime. They bolted.
So the concrete filled basement does in fact exist, did they really do medical experiments in there......who knows. Its now an office building, but the room is indeed still there.....spooky place to work, heh.

Me and 5 of my friends piled into a minivan and left berks county around midnight to head down. We made a wrong turn somewhere early off and had to just wing it. I got us to a wawa in hockessin, delaware and we got out and looked at a map of the county and saw the road we were looking for but we could figure out the quickest way to 202. It was around 2:30am now after driving lost for a while....by now my firend who was driving we pretty pissed and another guy had to be at work at 6am so we just decided to head home. It was mostly my fault for getting the wrong directions, but I know EXACTLY where to go now. I moved into school today, but prolly within the next 2 weeks i'll be back home and we already have plans to roll up more prepared with camears and stuff to document the trip. i'm so p*ssed we got that close and had to go the f home then:mad:
i was always interested in byberry, i seen some crazy pictures, and i found some maps, im way too scared to go in. they already knocked alot of it down, when they build the neighborhood and office building im going to drive around it haha, thats the closest ill ever go to that place.

Some crazy ass people thought they developed a way to travel through time in some sort of egg. People say all this stuff took place in the woods around McGuire AFB and around rt70 in NJ. It was a fully sanctioned research project with state of the art equipment and what not. People also say these guys/women live in man made huts out in the middle of nowhere and some of them have been found.

No man that gate is almost never locked and you can pull up around the corner and you should be fine, even if it is locked, just take some sort ofsuv, there is a path right to the right of it, nuthing serious you just might scrap in any other car, and the only place around it is these two like truck depoys. The only this that might arouse the locals is like five imports flyin down the road to get there,(spacem out) but yea if anyone wants to see this place im up for a trip just let me know and ill show you guys around.

If anyone is interested here is a map I found last week,I know there are more spots because I have found them on drives out in Warton but most of them I doubt I could find again. Most are not creepy but it is still cool to go out in the middle of the woods and find what is left of old towns and factories.

Man this threads got me all intrigued now! I want to go to byberry around haloween with some friends and mabey eat some shrooms:devil:
Ive been down cossart rd aka satanville. I suggest if you have a low car you drive very slowly. I also made a delivery to a homeowner on that road about a year ago. They said its a pita sometimes cause kids are all over the place at night.
I think there is a church....well there is something, about half way down the road up a hill. Its hard to see thru all the trees, and there is nowhere to park since the road is so narrow, so I didnt want to leave my car in the middle of the road and venture up the hill.

i have been to byberry before...its really nothing special...you just have to go with someone that knows their way around...we parked at the wawa on the blvd and walked there...i went with 2 friends and some random kid i met online that went all the time..you just have to stay low when your around the windows and sprint if you go outside...but there really is no need to be outside except for when your coming and going cause all the buildings are linked from the tunnels...but when you get up to the roof there is really nothing to worry about as far as getting caught goes...just make sure the roof doesnt cave in where you walk...i was in the tunnels and everything...lots of rats and its just not safe IMO. plus there is SO much graffity there it almost makes it less fun cause kids go in a put their stupid ass tags on the walls. there are posters of 2PAC in the auditorium as well...i saw the morgue...i believe it was 8 drawers but as i said before just tons of grafiti ruin everything..i would like to go back 1 more time before they knock everything down tho.
another place which i enjoy alot more is in NJ...its called North Princeton Developmental Center. its a HUGE area owned by the state...it consists or somewhere around 80 abandoned buildings and there is a fully functional elementary school in the middle of everything fenced in..kinda weird..its a good time there but i wouldnt go with more then like 5 people at a time...its off of 206 you have to get on to Elm Road and go all the way down til you see it on the right...im down to go if anyone is interested, i havent been in a while..its patrolled by a secuity guard that lives on premises that is directly in contact with the cops so you gotta watch yourself. i have had to run plenty of times before...there are a couple good parking spots on the premises behind abandoned buildings where your car cant be seen from the road..but all in all its a cool place...some of the buildings are HUGE...its like an entire abandoned town like that frick place or whatever...there is an abandoned police station, firehouse, and hospital.. all of which are fairly large..like i said if anyone is interested let me know.
a good site for abandoned places in the tristate area (mainly NY, NJ, and PA) is www.unquiettomb.com.
it hasnt had updates in a while and it wont tell you how to get to places but it gives you the city and state its in and tons of pictures of places...check it out...

It's referred to as "Cry Baby Bridge." I couple of people I used to work with back in HS claimed that they went there and you can hear babies crying (tf???). When they left, they claimed to have found baby hand prints on their bumpers.

I don't dude, im not really into the whole ghost thing either but when we went through Pennhurst you could definitley feel alot of bad energy going around. To me, its pretty logical considering all the deaths of severely retarded and mentally ill children that happened there. To this day theres still a lawsuit from the parents of a patient there, and its a supreme court case. I don't know it just seems like a really ****ed up place.

yeah pennhurst is definitely a creepy place but for someone to say that it's "haunted" would be incorrect in my opinion, I'm not saying you did or anything. a lot of people have been to that place too and they ****ed it all up by destroying stuff and there's graffiti everywhere. I would have liked to go in there a month or two after it closed down lol. I'm sure there's a bunch of copper left in that estate too, there's something like 12 total buildings.
the tunnels were my favorite part as well as the room with all the barrels of toilet paper and shelter supplies in case of a nuke.

what is supposed to happen on dog kennel road?
Your supposed to be completely quite the entire time on the road starting from Rose Tree Road. Stop at each bridge, turn your car off, turn the lights off and sit there in silence for 30 seconds. At the third bridge after you do that and when you turn your lights on your supposed to see something or something like that. Thats what I've been told at least lol
Apparently a girl got raped at every bridge one night and she died at the third back in the 50's or something? A cheerleader coming home from a sports game.
They put up speed bumbs on the street now I believe. I haven't been by there in years.

yeah you even need a flashlight in broad daylight in most of the areas at pennhurst. it would be pretty hard to get around at night, not to mention how easy it would be to get lost. at least you'll have a better chance of not getting caught by security at night however.

theres 2 places that i know of in lebanon county. the first is in northern lebanon near fort indiantown gap (i forget where exactly). google: blue eyed six!! a long time ago, there were 6 people who were hung near this one church after they were all convicted of murder. i know of some people who went there and wandered around the church and the area, and they said it was really scary. in southwestern lebanon county there is a little road called "obie rd.". this is supposedly haunted too. i guess its a private road, and after drivng on it for about a mile, a big "red neck" truck came flying behind me, sort of chasing me off of the road.

From what I hear, in Gettysburg near the battlefields is pretty freaky. People claim to see soldiers walking around and what not, ive never been there personally or anything though. [except for on a middle school field trip in daylight lol]
