goo-gone works too, but in VERY SMALL amounts and the surface must be washed well afterwards, goo-gone could eat your paint if left on

i think claybar wont really remove large amts of that kind of thing, its mainly for the final step to pull the residue out of the paint. you might want to try something like good gone (make sure its safe for paint first, i can never remember) or bug and tar remover to get as much off as possible first to see how that works. and dont rub too hard or keep using the same area of the rag over and over, it'll scratch the paint in the surrounding area.

Yeah, I was just reading about the clay thing and it didn't seem like its made quite for that?

I'll have to go to pep boys and look around I suppose!

clay pulls inpurities out of your paint, like stains in the actual paint that build up over time. its the final step in paint cleaning although a lot of people dont use it.

yea i thought you already took the gum and tape off and had the crap left over on the paint from it. id use bug and tar remover to get the gum and tape off and then the clay bar to make it so it looks like it was never there

i had gum all over the hood of my eclipse before and used wd-40 to get it off. worked very well, just make sure to clean it off really well when youre done. goo gone worked well for the adhesive left after i removed the factory stickers from my motorcycle.

:trying to stay on topic, lol: is wd-40 commonly used for adhesive removal? i didn't know that???

it can be. i used to spray it on my chrome rims during the winter time before snowstorms, then afterwards i could just wipe all the salt and crap right off it and they looked brand new

i didnt know either. i was so pissed when i got home and found what appeared to be 3 packs of chewed gum on my hood. i tried to 'scrape' it off myself, which didnt work. then my dad came home, sprayed a little wd-40 on it, and it came off in seconds.

I went and got Turtle Wax Bug&Tar and Tree Sap Remover. Worked wonderfully. Both the gum and sticker junk came right off.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Alchohol, take a credit card and knock off as much of the gum as possible and then use the alchohol to remove the excess, use lots and rub gently, you should wax the area afterwards.

Keep in mind for removing adhesive goo, the easiest way is to use gasoline.....it'll melt right off. Just be sure the wash any areas the gasoline came in contact with so as not to damage the paint on your car.

Use a hairdryer on high heat whenever you pull off those damn dealer stickers. Heats up the glue so its easier to remove and doesn't leave as much residue behind. Works pretty good for vinyl decals too.

Or, park it in the sun for a bit and it does the same thing.
