This was posted on a DSM forum...

I was doing an install last week for a New Jersey State trooper. While I was there, he told me that starting this Monday, May 2, Jersey will launch a 30 day speeding ticket frenzy. The state estimates that 9 million dollars will be generated in speeding tickets. 1 million will go to pay state troopers over time. There will 50 state troopers on duty at all times patrolling the 9 main intersections and highways. They are the following:

I-295 north and south

1-95 (Jersey Turnpike) north and south

1-80 east and west

I-287 north and south

I-78 east and west

1-195 east and west

1-280 east and west

Rt. 130 north and south

Garden State Parkway north and south

I’m warning everyone now that 5 mph above the limit can justify a ticket and every state trooper is supposed to pull a car over and write a ticket every 10 minutes. They have issued 30 brand new unmarked Crown Victoria cruisers and are bring in all their part timers on full time. If you work in New Jersey, New York, or CT, you must take one of there interstates, routes, or parkways. It’s up to you how fast you are doing when they do. I was told 101.5 FM confirmed all of this. So be safe and don’t forget speeding tickets are on you. You’ve been warned. Good Luck

Looks like I'm going to keep my car parked until June!! :(

Never thought you'd say that, huh?

That really sucks. If I drive to the shore anytime soon I'll have to be sure I do the speed limit.

this is such chain mail spam... come on... they will be patrolling the GSP both ways, the entire length, and well lets see, every other major road in NJ for its entire length, for an entire month? guess they're gonna have everyone working overtime to pull this one off...

I can confirm this. Shortly after this was pronounced on the radio I started seeing a lot more troopers hiding on the parkway where I've never seen them before. Also, I saw a line of unmarked black crown vics on the expressway. Obviously cops, no idea why they were in a line. Also saw a LUMINA with absolutely no markings and very crappy strobe lights with a vehicle pulled over. I'd say they are serious about this.
However, expect to see me arrested soon because I won't pull over for an unmarked lumina, or any car for that matter. Its my stand that it is LESS safe to have unmarked cars. It promotes citizens rigging strobes of their own and car jacking people on open highways. :thumbdow:

So at the end of the month, whats considered a good outcome? Lots of speeders so they meet their quota for revenue? Scare the crap out of people so that not one single person is going over 65 mph, but go into debt in the process?

They need you to speed but don't want you to.

I hate this ****ing state. I still don't quite get why the speed limit is 65mph. Modern cars cruise at 80mph just fine. If I tried putzing along at 65mph in my car in 5th I'd get even ****tier gas mileage while putting undue stress/load on the motor. The south knows what's up w/their 75mph speed limits.

Oh ya, I probly wouldn't pull over for an unmarked either. I'd call 911 or something first and have them send a marked unit or verify for me that it is a cop.

catch 22. Get pulled over on a moving violation (such as speeding)... it's double fine.

Also, there is the "Safe Corridor" BS on certain (heavily traveled local arteries)... same deal...double fine.

Good point. But if we all stopped speeding...what happens? Property taxes go up. The municipalities have to keep the dough coming in. It's a no-win scenario. They would rather we all stopped speeding, I'm sure. It costs more money to keep those cops/troopers out there than to just rake in property tax, I would think. And besides, we all know that government = lazy.

I can vouch for this. I went to a car show in Medford yesterday. Just about every 10 minutes I saw an unmarked with someone pulled over going south on the turn pike.

Then on top of that, Every pull off had an officer in it. One in perticular had a SLEEPING officer lol.
