almost everyone is going to say that they prefer the computer that they use... maybe a rare few will actually have extensive experience on both and will objectively compare them though.
what i will add to the discussion is that a lot of people are misled by old reputations about macs and pcs which are no longer relevant today, and in many many ways the two platforms are incredibly similar these days.

benchmarks for pc's will surpass mac within the same price range.
kinda why i think they jumped on the intel silicon especially since intel will be doing primarily dual core now on (and soon quad core processors!)

I have both and enjoy both for seperate things. however the MAC is just a superior machine with better thinking behind its use and applications

the mac is a little more robust for me, because what was stated before: people don't try to break into them as much as pcs, and don't create as many virii for them. The only thing I don't like about my mac is my browser always sucks up a lot of resources ie: firefox, opera
pc is a little quicker in the 'internet surfing' department, but my mac will always have a place in my <3. I collect the old machines as well, (pre-G3)

i use my G3 as a storage bank for all my limewire downloads. and it still runs great with 3000+ songs

I grew up on Mac, and prefer PC, which is what I have now.
Mom has a G5 downstairs that I used once in awhile for printing. Other than graphics and lack of virus created for them, they are pointless for your average user.
I prefer Windows OS over Mac OS for a number of reasons, one of which is the ease of use and editing of preferences. I found the Mac to be troublesome to navigate and setup how you want, it has a mind of its own. Windows, I can change any preference I want/need very easily. I prefer the layout and design of the GUI as well, and the ease of changing those settings.
The Mac is a graphic designer's heaven. It is powerful in that department (and the graphics department is really the only department in your company it should go ;) ) Though it is very powerful w/ its graphic and video editing programs....the programs are made for both Windows and Mac OS's And a windows PC can EASILY be built to out perform the Mac for most likely less money.

OSX just looks prettier. And it still can get viruses.

I work in a data center on windows servers and pcs so I do prefer them but my girlfriends G5 with the 4 gigs of ram and crap is just insane. It's all personal prefrence and what you are going to be doing with it. If you're thinking about getting one don't ask in a forum. Go find a friend with a mac and ask them to let you use it for a couple hours and see if you like it.

I actually use 3 different OS's at home. I have my windows PC for gaming & movies/music, my Ubuntu linux fileserver & my powerbook for recording and editing my DJ mixes. I like all 3, just for different uses.
Everyone likes different things so it's hard to justify which is "better".

It's definitely one of my favorite distributions of linux. I imagine a newer version will be out soon since most of the gui's (Gnome & KDE) are switching to the X-Org architecture from the XFree86 one. Makes gettin some libraries a pain, but overall it's a nice OS. Cant argue. And it's actually pretty easy to learn.
whats ubuntu?
It's a distribution of linux.

Its not really what we prefer, as much as what you want to do with your computer, and how much you want to spend.
If cash is no object, then just get the bomb ass mac, and dual boot it with windows using bootcamp.
If you want to do internet surfing and web browsing, then go with whatever one you feel the price justifies.
If you want a gaming rig, then you wouldn't be asking this question.
If you want to do light photo editing or video editing, then get either. If you want to do hard core photo editing or video editing, or you will be doing these things in a work environment, then see what the new machines Apple roles out have to offer. As it is, i would avoid any G5 towers now, as they are at the end of their life cycle.
The plural of virus is not virii, as it is not a latin word.

Mac, because I swore never to buy another Windows machine again after having Windows ME. Anyone who makes an OS THAT BAD doesn't deserve to make money.

well duh, ME was just 98 with a nicer GUI.
if that was the last Windows OS you've used, you must have been outta the PC game for a while! try XP!

XP Media FTMFW!!!
I love XP. I've only had problems from downloading porn....I mean...nothing....downloading...nothing at all...
erm.
But seriously, XP is great. Just get yourself AVG, Zonealarm Pro (or another good firewall) a router (while making the firewall on the computer "useless" it still gives you software access control), and ad-aware, and you are set.
I swore never to buy a Mac after using my mom's G3 for a number of years..what a POS.
