Is it possible to have a car that has two turbos. One small for lower RPms and a bigger one for higher rpms. If so, how is this set up?

some have two equally sized turbos like 3000gt vr-4's. Each turbo runs off of 3 cylinders, which is good for the v6 configuration. Or if you have an inline motor you use a small turbo to spool a bigger turbo. Finally there is the turbo from the new Porshe 911 turbo. that is more of what you are talking about. Go to Porshe's website and read. It is a single turbo, but it changes from a small one to a big one.

Wha? :D I got one them turbos (stock) but upgrading next year.... Spool up is quicker then a wastegated turbo, min lag.

Another configuration can be a sequential 2 turbo set up. Typically a smaller sized turbo is used to spool a larger one down the line. Can be found on previous generation RX7's.

and in supras...

its controlled electonically i believe to direct all air to the smaller turbo initially and at a certain rpm it splits the exhaust gasses between the two turbos for substantially more flow and top end.

I want the turbo used on the prodrive. where it injects gasoline right into the turbo charger at lower RPMs to get rid of lag

vnt turbos are nothing new, dodge put em out in '89 on the Shelby Csx, daytona VNT and lebaron VNTs and ultra rare (14 total) shadow competition coupes

they are good for stock but for a perfomance turbo you are really better of with a new GT

I just looked at the porsche website and I couldnt help myself but drool. However.....the website says that the car doesn't get a lot of torque at high RPMS. It only accelerates faster. Im kinda dissopointed

If you ever watch that tractor pulling stuff on ESPN, take close note to the motors, they have 2 turbo's used to spool one enormous turbo

You guys DO know that subaru made a twin turbo boxer 4 legacy right? It was also sequential to aid in spooling.
