Mobil 1 syn oil

Where do you guys get your synthetic oil. I buy it at a small local place where I get my oil filters but all they sell is the 6x1 quart pack. There has to be a place to buy it in bulk for cheaper right?

Mobile 1 is the best...so its expensive.

Walmart sells a 5qt jug for $20 tho.

M1 is far from the best

...and on that note, Ive always used it. Just because I don't feel like shopping around and Ive yet to experience a catastrophic failure due to which type of oil I'm running.

I've heard Royal Purple and "the best" be used in the same sentence many times. I've never been bold enough to try it though. I stick to my Mobil 1. It works for me, no sense in messing with it :)

Amsoil, Redline, Royal Purple all good stuff. I've heard bad things about mobile 1 there is a thread about it on here about some guy testing motor oils.

well that guy was probly a tool. have you ever seen the inside of a motor run on synthetic it's whole life? they look brand new.

I am not saying that it's the best, I would use amsoil instead but moble 1 is what my car calls for. Just got an izuzu rodeo that has had mobile 1 in it for all 210 thousand miles with no problems at all. the exhaust manifold is rusting away but it still runs like a top.

Also, i have family that only runs amsoil in everything, and some use the 30 and 50 thousand mile stuff and actually go 30 to 50 between oil changes.

My car calls for Mobil 1 Syn or Castrol Syntec....unfortuntatly it's Mobil 1 0w40 syn or Castrol 5w40. Walmart doesn't carry either. Stupid VW502.00 oil regulation.

You can use the 5w30 Mobile1 that walmart sells. The only difference is that the 0w40 is a lighter oil, so it circulates faster, but its only important on VERY cold winter days when you oil gets cold and thicker!

Nope, i can't Vypurr, there is a list of oils that meet VW's 502.00 oil standards, and the Mobil 1 Syn 5w30 does not meet that standard according to them. Stupid yes, but VW is anal about the warranty

I am reaching 70k OCI on my car this weekend.

I have used Mobil Delvac 1 AKA truck and SUV 5w40 for most of my oil changes. It's a great oil, but not Vw spec. Though, the VW TDI crowd loves it.

the last oil change at 60K OCI I put in Elf 5w40. It seems fine to me. I will porabably stick with it, since it meets VW specs.

I love 10k OCIs with synth.

Advance auto I have found to stock some of the European spec Oils.

That's convenient if they do because there is an advance auto about 5 minutes from me. My first oilchange is coming up in about 400 miles, so need to swing in and grab that.

All this talk about what is the best oil, don't forget the filter is as important, if not more important. I would strongly reccomend a K&N filter. Avoid Fram filters like the plauge. If you want more info about oil than you could possibly ever digest, then check out www.bobistheoilguy.com . Also, if you want to find out how your oil is doing, consider having an oil analisys run next time you change your oil. They will be able to tell you how that oil faired across its service life, and any issues that may be showing themselves.

yeaaaah about that... VW filters are a little different. They're not like screw on filters that you buy at walmart. They're action drop in filters that goin into the oil filter housing on the motor. But I believe Mann manufactures the VW filters. At least it's that way on my GTI.

the pepboys around where I live sell royal purple..thats all I use in my car..is royal purple and K&N oil filters..I also use RP power steering fluid (makes one heck of a diffrence) and RP tranny and rear diff fluid..its good stuff..

Mobil 1 @ Advanced Auto. They carry many different weights of synthetic oil.

I usually go for the 15w-40 in the summer and 5w-30 in the winter. Although I've been shown how synthetic 0w-40 can effectively protect a fresh motor from sub 0 to very hot engine temps. As impressive a bit of fluid engineering as I've ever seen.

M1 0W-40 is ok, but M1 5w-40 is a lot better. My car runs fantastic on this stuff. Even a 5W oil is overkill in our climate, the most we need is a 10W.

Earlier MKIV & earlier 2.slow & 1.8T (and earlier 4 bangers) are screw-on filters that you can buy at Walmart.

Ahh wasnt sure on the older models. I know that my MkV is a drop in filter and have not seen them anywhere in stores. I've seen places that sell Mann filters online, but they're only slightly cheaper then the VW ones after shipping. I'll probably just pick em up from the dealer when I do my changes unless I can find somewhere that sells the Mann ones considerably cheaper.

heh i just went thru this **** tonight. i always knew walmart sells it but. i thought small auto shops mite. well think again. they make more money when they sell a quart for 6 bucks and charge 11 for a mobile 1 oil filter. all of tonight i drove to pep boys auto zone and one other store and just ended up at walmart where i didnt feel like driving to in the first place.

Doesn't BMW these days use something like a 10w60 oil? And burning 1 quart per 1000 miles is normal? And when you have a M-spec engine.... it is normal to chug oil?
