Ok ok touchy subject i know, but to be honest i don't know why. Since i have been on this site they have not been allowed, i think troll thinks they clutter the site but i think they add to the whole forum expierence. I know bryan's response to this already.... give me a real reason why you think they should be here and i will consider it. Well i don't have a good reason other then i think the masses want them. Ok so another forum i am on allows them and just tells you to keep them under a certain size. Basically its a honor system but i think within reason is fine. Set a size limit like a avatar and then thats it.

See i think mine is fine i think his is too big and then still keep the ammount of line of texted limited to maybe 2 or 3.
I am just trying to make a semi logical discussion for something that i think can't hurt this forum.

I vote yes if they are small. The ones in the picture above are waaaaay too large. Large pictures make the forum slow and not too much fun to navigate.

I think the sig pics make a forum look like crap. It gets all messy with reading posts and such. Plus, morons wouldnt be able to grasp the concept of them having to be a certain size.

In lieu of sig pics, if you MUST, then make the avatar size slightly larger or something. I'll say that the avatars on this site are about double what I am used to seeing at other sites.

I come here to read opinions and comments and car talk, not see the same picture over and over (and over and over and over) again. There's already a gallery part of the forum, which many forums do not do. A small banner touting your car club or something I could see, but most of those sig images are just downright annoying.

i also think they are annoying. small ones are cool, but tons of people end up putting 5 lines of text, then a huge ass picture. it makes the load slower and takes forever to scroll past them to actually read the posts.

I like them. I am sure there is a VB plugin to moniter sig sizes, so if the entire sig is more than a certain height it clears it.

Make it so that the pictures only load once per a person per a page, so if I make 10 posts, my sig pic only appears once.

Make it an option in the User CP to turn on or off.

You want more horizontal than you do vertical. 300 pix horizontal leaves like no room. 400 x 150 would be good imo

This is what i use on another forum i am on... Its 400x164 but i could crop it alttle i guess i was thinking 400x200 not cause mine will fit but because that 50 extra in height is nice.

I read, that's why I agreed with 400 x 200. It's not really a solution, more of a softening how much people have to load / deal with looking at. But if I can be turned off and people are gung ho for it, why not

The other problem is it adds a lot to load times, not to mention bandwidth if we host them on the server. In the end, they don't really add anything to discussions, which is what that 90% of the page is all about.

seriously though,.. why would you want to force EVERYONE to be picture-less just because you dont like them, when you can just TURN THEM OFF. an option that allows everyone to be happy is always better than an option that forces just one way of doing things

Nah, you can have both - avatar only or nothing, if you modify the lite skin it is very much possible. I'll see if I can find that template, didn't see it more than 2 months ago somewhere.

i've said, there is a lite skin, which when modified can show only avatars and no sigs. They have done it before on other forums, but I cannot vouch for how it is done because I am not an PHP developer

I dont think it matters either way but i think the above post is one reason the owner may not want them. It allows people who havent paid for a banner ad to post them up free, they just wont have the hyperlink function. It would be one more thing for mods to have to look for.

Personaly I think they make the site looked cluttered.

Not having sig pic keeps the site looking classy and clean. This sort of thing is what make TST stand out from the rest and why choose to be here over thousands of other sites.

the problem is that we dont know if we can allow users to turn the signatures on and off. we upgraded the forum and it allows certain limitations on signature pictures, but it does not have on/off integrated into it so we need to find a new version of the on/off hack to work with VB3.6.
