I bought this thing off ebay for $50 shipped, http://members.aol.com/Sam16888/benzkey5.jpg

thought I may give it a try because I HATE the banging sound from the alarm module remote on the steering column....:furious: in my forester I put some soft stuff on the column, but now I need to extend my imaginagion plus always wanted the audi-like key

got it today and it happens to be much harder, if possible at all, then I expected

let the pics talk for themselves:

This is OEM remote:

disassembled

http://s89754395.onlinehome.us/alarm/2.JPG

here's the new gadget, already opened by me

http://s89754395.onlinehome.us/alarm/3.JPG

Here's the OEM chip next to the new housing

http://s89754395.onlinehome.us/alarm/4.JPG

And here's the problem

http://s89754395.onlinehome.us/alarm/5.JPG

Obviously I would have to use circle battery, no problems here

http://s89754395.onlinehome.us/alarm/6.JPG

Here's the chip, I don't see how I can make it smaller or cut anything (but I understand nothing in these kinds of stuff)

http://s89754395.onlinehome.us/alarm/7.JPG

So we have to figure out how can we squeeze it in
buttons are no problem, even though they don't allign perfertly if I apply the chip on the housing, I can just figure out an adapter so the housing buttons would reach the key ones
pboblem is as you see is fitting, housing space is limited and I can perhaps win not more then 1 or 2 mm there but cutting the inside gates

what do you guys think?

Not to bring another problem into the mix, but your key won't work in that remote unless you cut the key and weld it to the part that flips out.
Not sure if you can weld nickel though.

Either way, if you succeed post up a how to.

good luck

naa, the key is specific for subarus, so I would just have to have it cut like the OEM one

btw, here's progress so far

doesn't look nice yet, but that because I ran out of beer last night
need more work, I will trim that metal piece shround that goes around the fob in the middle, and it will close the gaps

im gona say what everyone said on RS25. It cant be done with that chip and still look nice. Im sure you can get an identically circuited chip made just in a different shape. thatd work.

Sorry man, I didn't realize that the blank was Subaru specific. I was under the assumption that the key was a used VW or Mercedes style key. You know the ones that are internally toothed.
