Yeah so I want to tint my car, what do you think the lowest I can go without getting in trouble by the police is and passing inspection?
specVogel

well passing inspection isn't really a problem. there is nothing in the inspection book that says anything about failing a car because of tint. the police on the other hand can pull you over for any amount of tint on the front windows if they want to though. alot of people go with 35% and are okay, but i have heard of people with that getting pulled over and given a fix it ticket.

I have 30%.
I went and asked a cop and he said that it was 30% also that you can pretty much go as dark as you want if the tint is chrome.

See now I heard any chrome tint was illegal. I also didnt think it came in grades, as the black tint does. Of the few cars ive seen with mirror tint, its almost impossible to see in. With black tint, thats around the 5% mark. 5% is also "limo tint" cause thats what they use.
On my miata I have 30% all around. You can have tint on the windshield as long as it doesnt go beyond the tint line. I know a few people who have had it done a little (.5 in or so) beyond and have been fine. Jusy dont go overboard.
all tint is illegal in PA. if its not factory its illegal. that law came out a few years ago. i know this for a fact.
I have 5% limo black all the way around and sometime i get bothered. i dont care there is no way im taking my tint off!

how much does a "fix-it" ticket normally cost?

how much does a "fix-it" ticket normally cost?If you mean "fix-it" by ripping it off depends on the cop. When I was pulled over for my tint as long as I pulled it off by the court date I set off the charges were dropped.

Must allow more than 70% of light in.
this means nothing because all cars come from the factory with 70%. its basicly nothing!

they pulled my mom over for her having 20% on all windows except the front on her integra, but she has a medical reason for the tint. if you get a note/prescription from an eye doctor you'll get away with tint

I have 25% on my g35 and I just roll my windows down when I'm in certian areas (like bethlehem) where cops use tint to profile.

If your mom gets pulled over again for COLORED tint she will be ticketed. They now have this non-colored tint for people with skin disease. I tried pulling this when I was pulled over for tint (with a "doctor's note"), and the officer told me that in order for the doctor's note to be valid it has to be clear tint, not limo tint.

35% in the fron, any % you want in the back.
SexyDSM95

35% in the fron, any % you want in the back. And where did you get this info from? It has already been stated that in order to be "legal" at least 70% of light has to emit through. Meaning...no tint lower then 70% is allowed on the front (driver/passenger side) windows. The back windows can be as dark as you want.

a friend of mine had 5% all around got pulled over all the time. then finally got 35% for the two fronts and havent had a problem since. so im guess if anything 35% is key, seeing as most people on here said they get away with 35%.

Yeah absolutely no tint...to be honest...i got stopped the other night and was given a warning...my tint is supposed to be 35% they ran a meter on it, turns out to be 29...so the cop said i need to get it removed and if i drive through that township again and if he sees me...i will get a tint ticket for EVERY window....5x105= im broke

I found this on Car Pretty Auto Salons website:
Pennsylvania Tint Law Enacted: 1999
HOW DARK CAN WINDOW TINT BE IN PENNSYLVANIA?
Darkness of tint is measured by Visible Light Transmission percentage (VLT%). In Pennsylvania, this percentage refers to percentage of visible light allowed in through the combination of film and the window.
Windshield No tint is allowed on the windshield.
Front Side Windows Must allow more than 70% of light in.
Back Side Windows Must allow more than 70% of light in.
Rear Window Must allow more than 70% of light in.
HOW REFLECTIVE CAN THE TINT BE IN PENNSYLVANIA?
Similar to sunglass lenses, some tinting film contain metallic elements that help in reflecting incoming light and reducing the glare and heat generated by visible light.
Front Side Windows No metallic or mirrored appearance.
Back Side Windows No metallic or mirrored appearance.
OTHER PENNSYLVANIA RULES AND REGULATIONS
Restricted Colors No colors of tint are explicitly banned.
Side Mirrors Dual side mirrors are required if back window is tinted.
Certificate Requirements Manufacturers of film do NOT need to certify the film they sell in the state.
Sticker Requirements
Medical Exemption State allows medical exemptions for special tint. For more details about the specific terms of the exemption, consult your state law.

legally there is a federal standard set forth by the federal gov't stating that a cop can only pull you over if he can not visibly see you. thus the reason the front windows and winshield are always the target. you can paint ur back windows black if u want and the can't do ****, i wouldn't pass u for inspection tho. so if u go to court and have all the standards and statutes printed out u'll get away with it, its all the matter of cop don't think you know what ur talkin about and they use there bagde to prove you wrong. so know you know i have 35% executive tint, its like a mirror tint but darker and more like a silverish gray. i get pulled over only in one town around me, and the cops have tint and speeding tickets, nothing else happens, thank god my gf cuzin is a cop there

stupid question, could a cop write u a ticket for tint when ur car is parked in a parking lot and ur not in it
tTS2k3Vic
08-01-2006, 05:33 AM
70% was the old law, the new law for PA is that the cop decides if it to dark or not, they change this when they took tint off the state inspection guidelines, december of 02. but if u fight it there are higher laws the protect you, a federal law over rules a state or local law any day. and no they can't rite you a ticket if your parked, unles its a parking ticket.

instead of making a new thread, i'm just gonna ask here. what's a cheap place in philly to re-tint my front windows? my front driver side just developed a huge air bubble last week and i'm thinking of redoing it.
