So Volkswagen, in a very intelligent move, will be killing the uber upscale (and overpriced) V8/W12 equipped Phaeton in 2006. And be returning to it roots, sporty economy cars.

And VW brings you the 06-07 VW Rabbit.

i drove one a couple weeks ago and it was nice. the engine is more responsive than the 2.0 it replaced and overall it feels pretty solid. I think they need a sunroof and upgraded sound option in the two door though...also a tdi wouldn't hurt. overall i think it's great for the price.

I think it would really move with the 2.0T under the hood. It would probably would be able to get the same gas mileage or maybe even better than the 2.5 that it has now. The tdi Rabbit may be a lil ways off. From what one of the VW reps at the NY auto show, it wont have a diesel until the US diesel emissions are cleaned up. Here is the Rabbit they should build:

2.0T+Limited Slip+6 speed manual+get weight down to around 2500 lbs+
$18-$19k price= killer car.

I don't have too good of a feeling from the things ive read that they are considering resurrecting the Scirocco for '08. Only problem is the base price is going to be above $25,000 for it...

Engine, Interior, Suspension, GTI comes with a 6-speed, has a different front and rear fascia, wheels, exhaust........the list goes on lol.

SRT...Still just a Neon.

The Rabbit has a cult following.
This is the best thing Volkwagen has done in a while.

They changed the Golf's name back to Rabbit. Good marketing idea, definitely. People remember the Rabbit being a fun little car, so hopefully they'll sell well.

I'm telling my brother to look at them since he's getting into a new car, I'm just concerned a little with recent VW reliability.

:rotfl: that is a nice kick in the balls

I think this is a good move by VW as long as the keep the price down. VW has been more geared for the upscale market instead of the mass public in the last few years IMO.

when i fisrt watched the commercial i thought it was a smaller car judging by the way they made them look. I thought it was gonna be something like the Xb and the Fit.

I really like them. It would def. be a car I would consider buying. I would like to take it for a test drive to really see though. I didn't think that they were out yet though.

not really.. even before the neon was fast it was quite a capable car for motorsports, which people dont seem to realize.

so wheres the shame?

i just think its funny they rename a car and everyone goes ape****, and then it comes to the srt, which has probably WAY LESS in common to a neon than the rabbit does to the golf, and "its still a neon"

Changing the name will not help at all. Americans do not buy hatchbacks. For some reason they are not very popular in the US compared to other countries.

in the new commercial where they're all driving around, they KINDOF have a harliquen for like 2 secs during the commercial.. its in the middle of alll the other cars, and its like.. gray, silver, red, black, white, ... i guess they were mixing all the colors it comes in?

:iagree:

A TDI or 2.0 turbo Rabbit would be a better motor than the 2.5 5-cylinder.

As far as I heard the harlequin is just a prototype and will never come over to the US.

not at all. i do like the caliber though, and i might buy one for my daily commute.

as for jealousy.. in what way does that even make sense? i HAVE an srt-4.. its not like anyone is taking it from me. actually i'd have liked it if they just made the 5000 or so '03's and left it at that.

That is cool, but most SRT-4 owners that I have met are hell bent that isn't not a Neon. I'm glad your not that way and can take a joke.

If you saw the commercials for the rabbit I think the reason the one car had different color panels, was it was supposed to represent a bunny rabbit? The cars colors were black, gray, and white (bunny colors if I correct). At first I did not understand why the heck the one car had different colored panels, but after seeing the movements of the cars in the commercial.. bunnies...!
