Susie and I are working on building her Turbo Beetle a little. Right now we have waiting to be installed an intake and downpipe. She needs to get a boost gauge. I had reccomended ABDs EBC and Fuel pressure regulator combo. It says it can raise it to 14.5 PSI but that seems way to high. What is the stock boost level for the 1.8t?

Why not get a MBC and save couple hundred $$$. Are you planning on doing a decent amount of work that you are going to need a 2 step boost setting.

I would get the GIAC flashloader or the Apex'i EBC with the fuel management and all that. Stock boost level I believe is between 10 and 12. But I could be wrong.

The ABD is only jsut under 300 so i think its worth it. Besides its alot better than tuning an MBC.

I would definately agree about the MBC, notghing beats being able to change the boost levels on the fly while driving.

How is it alot better???? Unless you are having problems hooking how does and EBC work more effiecently than a MBC

If you change your boost while driving you also have to re tune your car.

I dunno dude, I have a MBC in my car so im not being biased. Ive seen the MBCs for VWs and their a pain in the ass to install, this plugs into the ECU and controls the solinoid. all she has to do is set it where she wants. I also dont like how jumpy my throttle is because of my MBC. Besides its alot more accurate than trying to tune the MBC. Im not a lazy person but ****, do you stick your hands in a VWs hot ass engine bay? let alone the MBC thats been sitting in it?

Stock boost is liek 8 lol.

Yeah when i was thinking about it later I thought I may have gotten my numbers mixed up with what you get after you chip it. As for tuning with the GIAC it's just changing the map you are using. If you get the flashloader you can change between six different programs while you are driving. If you check vwvortex you can find them used for a fair price. When I had my Wolfsburg Jetta I really wanted either the GIAC or the Apex'i setup.

its not alot better then a MBC

MBC can do that too.

MBC are way easier to install then EBCs. All you have to do is connect 2 hoses. If you have a jumpy throttle is not cause of the MBC. The only reason EBC are nice is if they have a gain control to help spool a BIG turbo or to lower or raise boost in certain gears like the avc-r can
+1 on saving 200$ and getting a MBC

ok... you should have asked me first then we could have stopped all this confusion...

stock boost level is 8 psi, but with tuning you can run a buttload more than that, for instance i run 23 psi spike and it falls off to about 15 at redline, and that's on a stock fuel system just with chip tuning.

My recommendation is skip the ABD ebc, skip mbc's with an mbc you get partial throttle full boost which sends the car into limp mode immediately (4psi limited by the Drive by Wire system) and besides you can only raise the boost to 12 psi (without a map clamp) The money you will put into chip tuning the car is well worth it, and i recommend either GIAC X+ or Revo, they both eliminate any emissions codes due to no cat, and they optimize the car for big downpipe, ect. just make sure they know what she has on the car when you get the programming installed.

so in essence, skip the MBC, skip the EBC, go straight for chiptuning, it's where you pick up the most power (they adust timing curves ect.) and she'll be happy with the drivability, and the power the car has.

yeah its like 7-8 lbs. and by the time it hits redline its like 5 lbs.

She pretty much wants quick plug and play. The chips are much more expensive than the ABD. She doesnt want to run high boost she just wants to run more than the crap it runs now. This is just testing, we arent sure how to go just yet.

well, then best bet IMO is to just get a zener diode and clamp the map, she'll run around 15 lbs and it will be on stock fueling, (which is safe) and when driving normally the car will act as it does now.

Thanks for the info guys, i'll keep everyone posted on what I decide to go with :)

Just to let you know from experience, save your money and go with a chip.
I spent money and time doing the MBC and the diode mod.. and it sucked. You most likley will hit limp mode, and its not fun. Then if you do get it running, you will a) want more, or b) your car will run different in a not-good way.

I just got my car chipped 2 weeks ago with the custom-code chip, and I love it. Its deffinitly not worth the time and aggrivation to do the diode and mbc. Just my 2 cents..

I agree with both of these posts. I'm on my second VW 1.8t, both GTi's.

w3rd chip is the best way to go.

Wow I completely forgot about the car going into limp mode. My Jetta did it twice, nothing sucks more then hitting the gas and the car basically saying no lol.
