does any one have an intake on thier wrx, and what are the hp gains. half the people say it doesnt do anything to this car. the injen intake claims like 7hp. so if anyone knows the deal please let me know

from what im told, the hp gains are minimal. but the sound of the turbo spool is much more evident with an aftermarket intake.

Pm us, we'll get you what you need, i personally prefer the blitz SUS with the godspeed MAF section. I can get you one. I love mine. But i definately recomend a short ram rather than a cai.

+1 for the SUS.

intakes are good if you have some form of engine management, on the wrx that is. puting an cai or shortram on a stock wrx will lean it out.

I bought the injen. Felt a minimal power increase, but the loud spooling was worth the money itself. If you are looking for power, go other places first.
I took it off because I got scared of sucking water into the fender. Then I cut it in half and put it back on.....

personally if this is your second mod save your money, it will be better spent elsewhere, just get a k&n filter for your stock intake and reomve the silencer
WIth an intake and not a real tune in engine managment as someone said early it will lean it out, now it makes more power but not real good for the motor at all

:iagree:
a lot of people automatically swarm towards intakes as early mods on WRXs, but its not going to give you a noticeable difference like on other cars. there is an airbox silencer mod you can do which is completely free and relatively easy which will increase intake and turbo noise and is pretty nice is thats what you're going for.
i'd suggest getting a downpipe and/or an uppipe if you're looking for bang for the buck. the uppipe install is pretty tricky but you might be able to find some experienced guys to help you out with it. the downpipe install isnt bad at all.
oh and fwiw, i have a Blitz SUS intake on my car but i also have a wideband 02 and have been tuning for it so i know i'm not running too lean.

Thats because on the majority of turbocharged cars, an intake will produce sizeable gains. The factory intake on a WRX is engineered so well that it does not become restrictive until you reach high power levels.

the best first mod would be a an up-pipe or a down pipe

i have heard that the up-pipe is the way to go, but it deletes the cat.
i can only assume that it will not pass inspection, or do you guys know some one that does "state inspections". :D

what he said
silencer removal + K&N = intake plus you can hear the turbo better

with out the cat in the uppipe you will still pass inspections
i have even heard people get rid of the cat in the downpipe pass with just the stock midpipe cat piece in place
all depends on how you get the car tuned and what not

If you are in PA, you will not pass inspection without cats unless you install a CEL fix. Any CEL and you will fail the OBDII tests.

yep or just turn off the cell with the utec
TROLL

but to avoid any confusion the CEL fixes are inexpensive and easy to install, especially for the uppipe. to summarize, the uppipe is a great mod that will not cause you to fail inspection, but it is a long involved install.

well for what its worth i am completely catless and passed emissions. its strictly OBDII now so they dont put a sniffer in your exhaust anymore, they just plug into your ECU and read it. i have the correct resistors installed so therefor all of my sensors read that things are going just swell.
i've heard others not be so lucky, but i know that i genuinely passed because i was surprised that i did and asked my mechanic if i could see the results of the test. he showed me and it was pass across the board.

what up pipe is everyone going with

I went with a Nino's, which was a cheaper version of the Perrin.
I would steer clear of Nino's now though since he moved to Florida.
Find a stock STi uppipe, catless and stock appearing.

i have an sti uppipe... its jet hot coated though. good for performance in theory, but its a bit shinier than the rest of the exhaust under there. a trained subaru tech might catch that, but nobody else ever would.
anyways, i'm happy with it.

Bottomline: If your WRX is stock/near stock, you will see very little or no performance gains with an intake. It will make the spool and stock bov sound louder but thats it. Dont believe that crap Injen says about gaining 5-10hp from their intake on a stock WRX.
Like everyone else said, go with a UP and DP to start then a catback.

If you have a few extra bucks in yer wallet deff pick up the crucial racing up and downpipe both are ceramic coated inside and out... Best pipes IMO.. ... welds look like they were made by machines.. Should be up on a wall.
For some reason perrin's price has droped for their up-pipe, but it looks different as well. Its a steal at only 190 on JSCSpeed.com if you want to save some money..
You could also look into getting a crossover pipe as well.

whats a crossover pipe?

the x-over pipe goes from cyl 1 manifold to cyl 4manifold and joins up at the manifold collector. You get a lil faster spool up. They say its good for a easy 9 hp with supporting mods.
