I am sure everyone seen me post up about the recent ticket I recieved on the night of Hot Import Nights. (or if your Barry you seen me sitting on the side of the AC Expressway getting yelled at by the Trooper!!!) Anywho, for those that didn't I recieved a Wreckless Driving ticket.

SOOO....Of course I pleaded not guilty to fight and handle the matter in court, I will be representing myself due to the fact I have found lawyers to be a waste of time and money for the same thing you can do. So my plan is to go in and speak with the DA to find out my options, I have done a lot of research to get diff info here and there, I have been driving since I was 17, which is 4 yrs til now and have only had one other moving violation ticket besides this one. So I figure talking to the DA might help me getting it dropped to the new citation NJ offers (UNSAFE DRIVING) carries a hefty like $400 and some odd dollar fine but thats ok with me. If i can't plea bargin I plan on requesting an ajourment to obtain counsel (than ill let a lawyer handle it). If not Ill fight this one to the end and take it to trial if I have too because it is hard enough to get a decent rate insurance premium in NJ and if this goes on my record Ill be taking the bus..

Anyway I guess I am just venting, finally the wake up call I didn't want to come, this past weekend me and my dad stripped down the whole car and returned it all back to stock and is up for sale. I have been driving my GTI around which is probably going to be gone soon also. But I guess thats how it goes, you have to pay to play....

Anyway, Any advice or a kick in the ass or something?

I doubt they will drop a reckless to Unsafe Driving. Most likely they will offer Careless Driving, a 2 point violation. Good luck though and let us know how you made out.

Try getting ahold of the DA by phone before hand, and speaking to him about what he can do for you. I have done this before and ended up going to court the next day when I was not scheduled, and pleading guilty to a non moving violation, which was excellent. Having a lawyer is ALWAYS benificial because they always take your case more seriously then, but not really worth it if you can afford the points..

At least they didn't take your license like they did to me. I recently got a reckless driving, they wanna keep it for 6 months. :( I'm fighting it though. Good luck! I know how much it sucks lol

So just got back basically this is what happened, went in really early, got there at 8 and spoke to the prosecuter, she recommended that she could drop it to a careless driving 2 points. Well thats still no good for me, so we talked and she took some info, she said they couldn't get ahold of the trooper and he didn't show up to testify against me. *that whole if the cop doesnt show up they dissmiss the ticket is bull****, they will just reschedule you* so anyway cop never showed, she dropped my wreckless driving ticket to UNSAFE Driving, so $438 later im happy....twisted about the money but happy

So no points right? Yeah, I always tend to get out of my tickets, it seems the court only cares about your $$!

No Points, yeah love money, i paid $438 for what reason? i hate the judicial system and car insurance, both scams....

Would have cost you a whole lot more in insurance if they pressed that Reckless Driving issue. Next to DUI, RD is one of the worst things to have on your DR. And it will follow you for a couple of years.

$438 definetly hurts, but sounds like you got a good deal to me.
I'd be happy.

it depends some insurance companies like geico and progressive even if u get no points they still surcharge you, I have New Jersey Manufacturers and that dont surcharge for non point violations
