Thats a bad attitude. I agree, for people who dont' want to take the time, these tools could spell trouble. I've been heavely involved with the development of these tools for about a year now (it could be longer it all blends togethor).
They are currently working on providing "staged maps" (http://www.osecuroms.org/) for people who shouldn't be editing their data. For those of us who are smarter (maybe actually dumber) we can create our own custom tunes.
None the less if there is anyone out ther running an 04-05 WRX with uppipe an downpipe and no EM. I would strongly urge you (for your cars sake) to go check out the free "delay" fix.
If there are people local I would be more than happy to meet and help!
(Just a side note, if you really worried, an extra ecu could be had for less than $100) I have a spare .. . .. . just incase!

Sure do. I actually use this software on my 04 and my friends 02. We are both currently running 16PSI on a very safe tune and putting down a good amout of power. These are both custom tunes (tailiored for each of our cars). I try to stay away from OTS tunes!
In a few months I will be putting my Super 16g on (it's sitting in a box just screaming at me) . .. .. then tunning will get really fun!

I thought I should also add, that right now this is not "realtime tuning"! We are currently working on that. For now, you have to DL your image (or move up to a more current base,) edit it, flash, datalog and start the whole process over again. So to get a full good working tune at the moment can take quite a while, but . .. .it's free!
The 04-05 delays are actually in the ecu logic (not the maps) so that is simple to fix now. (it took 3 months worth of testing to get it right!).

I havn't checked the site lately, but what is the status on writing to the Evo9 ECU. My friend has the cable, and I took a look at the software. It looks fairly robust, and at least a little similar to other tuning aplications I have seen/used.
I may pick it up to flash my ECU for inspection time, and if I ever need to run without my stand alone.

To perfectly honest! I'm a subie guy and I think the evos are stealing our attention (I'm selfish I geuss). None the less I haven't paid much attention to the Evo development.

According to this it looks like they still only support 7/8

i'm friendly with a guy who has been developing software just like this, called enginuity.. he told me that openecu isnt exactly open source, as the main guy doesnt really share what he's doing or accept help from others. however enginuity is a project that is in fact open source and coming along very nicely for the subarus. from what i understand he's just working on the gui now and still needs to develop his own writing program so he doesnt have to use the openecu anymore, but its quite complete at this point... give it a look if you're curious...

So you know Jared:)
And yes Colby isn't exactly the most friendly with his work, but he did give us the flash kernal to use for free :)
Did you miss the link to enginuity at the Top ^

Does this have the same problems on the 06 STi as the ECUTEK where it locks everyone out of the ECU including the dealership?
Jeramie
07-12-2006, 01:09 PM
ECUTEK does this to protect their investment. There is nothing being sold here so there would be no point to that (in other words no it doesn't and hte dealer shouldn't even be able to tell).
Of course . .. . if they found out you did use it I'm sure your warentee would be void!
Of course if you worried about the warentee. . .. then I don't think you should be using it.
