I just called nitti's about the white smoke coming from my exhaust, they feel it's the head gasket? $1300 to fix any thoughts? fortunetly i have the extended gold plan which covers this along with my $100 deductable.

Easiest way to tell...drain your oil into a clear container. If you see green seperate from your oil then coolant is mixing with your oil = blown hg.

You can also do a compression check to see if anything is off that's another way to check, but not definite.

most likely a headgasket.

white = hg
black = vac leak
blue = oil

What no compression bleed down or coolant pressure ck? This is very vauge to say the lest simple info like when does it blow smoke is still not known. Hell it could just be condensation in the exhuast pipes. Ck your coolant overflow and see if you are low on coolant and if there is oil in you coolant. Also you can pull the oil cap after you have been driving the car and see if there is a milky film on you oil cap.

most likely a headgasket.

white = hg
black = vac leak
blue = oilNot true as the person above stated. Could be something as simple as condensation build up in his exhaust. Also, with black smoke that could also mean carbon build-up not necessarily a vaccum leak.

i had my oil changed friday, mechanic said no coolant in the oil. It did it yesterday after the softball game, and it was coming out a lot. Then after we ate it didn't do it at all until the car got warm.

Have you cked you coolant level lately? I sound like your going to have to pull the head(s) to see if it's just a head gasket. It could be a cracked block or head too.

coolant is above teh full line, the radiator was replaced by the dealership about a month ago

blown head gaskets arent very common on wrxs. Do a compression/leakdown test.

i'd have to say it could most def be a blown/leaking head gasket, even tho it isnt common on wrx's its still a subaru and they are known to blow/leak head gaskets, a way to see if it is leaking is to take a look under the car and look along the lines of where the head gaskets would be you will see either the oil build up or even coolant traces or possibly be dripping, reason for me describing so much i have one sittin on my lift with the head gasket leaking, but not a wrx, also will see oil/coolant build up or dripping from the sub frame

So you brought it to Nitti's with the turboback to have them diagnose it, yet your going to take it off after the fact? Good luck with the warranty, I never had any luck with mine....

they are cool about it, but the district reps aren't. All i have to do is take it off and they'll take care of it, did teh same thing when my synchro's went back. Any chance you could help me with the uninstall?? i pay well!

With the exhaust and dp, sure why not. Up-pipe, no way! I couldn't do that if I tried, but I know people who could for a price you couldn't imagine.

downpipe is no problem, it's teh up-pipe that's a problem. I know how to remove it, but i've only done it on a lift....

Got everything taken care of, anyone know why the cel is flashing?

koho2731
06-13-2006, 10:22 PM
Flashing can be a mis-fire code. Does it falsh all the time or only when you driving it?

Did you use the AP to read the CEL?

Dude, how much do you trust this dealership? I would most def. take it to someone else that you can trust for a second opinion before you let them tear your engine down. What did they use to diagnose the HG? Were you there or did you drop off? As someone already stated HGs are seriously uncommon for WRXs (2.5 N/A engine Subies sure, but not WRXs). However, white smoke isn't uncommon at all and usually means a turbo coolant seal. When mine went, people watching swore the motor let go.

wrxbert

they are assuming it's the hg based on teh white smoke adn coolant reserve tank full, they are looking at it today to find out the exact problem. I'll keep everyone updated

What makes the dealer think it is that? Did they do any tests? Did they rip your car apart yet?

I'm with this guy^. Either you have a great dealership that is able to get the engine out of the car, remove necessary accessories, take off the manifold and heads and find the crack in one day OR I would be wondering just how they diagnosed this problem.

they are faster than a wrx?? yes they took the motor out to find it.
