Sunday May 15th in south Jersey. This one looks very tricky.

J G Cook’s Bar and Grill
692 Lambs Rd
Pitman, NJ O8071

http://www.phillyscca.com/roadrally/flyers/2005/OldiesButGoodiesFLYER.pdf

The rally is a mildly trapped TSD rally of approximately 75 miles. Only paved roads will be used and speeds will be within posted speed limits. The rally is part of the 2005 SCCA Mid-Atlantic Rally Championship Series. Only numbered route instructions are used on the rally with the goal of 100% of the contestants finishing the course. The course is designed so that even the cars going off course will get to the next control.

This should be a good one. The rally master is an old timer, who used to put on some really solid rallys. From what I understand the rally has been prechecked and is very nicely done. I think that everything is complete and ready to go.

Ok I may be biased about this one. I think the dash plaques look great and the trophies are nice wall plaques.

Is anyone else here going? If so allow me to encourage you to pre-register to get the dash plaques. Only the first 25 entries will get them.

How often do they have rallies like this in this area? Sounds like a blast, but I'll be out of town on business on the 15th.

What are you doing Sunday (5/1/05)? There is a rally in MD. After this one there will be Witch Way to Salem in early June.

I'll be in VA this weekend, but I might be able to make the one in June, if not maybe one of the August rallies. Need anything special to run?

I really want to do one of these! This weekend's booked and I'll be in VA Beach on the 15th, but I'm going to do at least one of the other ones this year.

What do I need to enter one of these? Besides someone else to navigate and the registration. Sounds like it'd be lots of fun.

I'll be at both of the upcoming rallies. It's going to be a blast!

Basically what is needed is a way for the navigator to make notes on/mark up the route instructions, and do some simple calculations, based on time, speed and distance.

So once you have the vehicle with a working speedometer and odometer, all you really is a clipboard, pens/markers, highlighters, simple calculator, and a watch or two. If you each have a decent watch then you should be able to get everything else for less than $20. I imaging that most people would have everything but the clipboard somewhere already.

I'm probably going to run this rally but I haven't made a definite decision yet. Jim, from what you told me it sounds like one I don't want to miss.

I'll be at the rally on May 15th. Unfortunately the rally tomorrow is too far away. Good luck to everyone rallying tomorrow, wish I could be there.

What great weather, the sun was out and it was a beautiful day. There wer plenty of old sports cars to gawk at too. The rally was very well done and everything went without a hitch. My brother and I took home the third "Equipped" trophy (wine) and second "Dirtiest Car" (car care stuff) as well.

I wrote up a more detiled review at SJR-SCCA.com (http://www.sjr-scca.org/forums/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=36)

Nice write-up on the SJR board. Sounds like it was a lot of fun! Good to hear it all went smoothly, and everything but that part through the neighborhood with the speedbumps sounds cool. I'll definitely do the next one if I'm around.

I'd just be able to show up with the calculating equipment (and stock tires), do the rally, and drive home, right? Ideal for my budget.

It is a fairly inexpensive sport at the stock/novice level. The real expenses come when you get better timing and mileage measuring equipment, or dump $$$ into traveling the country.

If you were to compare the costs to auto-x costs it would seem that road rally is cheaper. For example

For the price of: http://store1.yimg.com/I/saferacer_1841_18198078.gif $226 from saferacer.com
You can get one of these: http://rally.cc/checkpoint-club.jpg $199 from Small systems Specialists (www.rally.cc)

Also for the price of a set of: http://www.vulcantire.com/graphics/tires/azenis_rt615.jpg $154 each from Vulcan Tire.

You can get:http://rally.cc/null-photo-sm.jpghttp://rally.cc/eli-photo-sm.jpg $669 from Small Systems Specialists

The good part is the clock should last longer than the helmet (20+years) and the computer will last way longer than the tires (10+years).

Great, I think I'd have more fun at one of these than autocrossing. I'll be at at least one of the August rallies, and then every one I can make after that.

I can't wait for the next Pine Barrens Rally. I missed it last year, and I definitely will not miss it this year.

I enjoy both. I own all the equipment I used for the comparison. The two sports are very different. In auto-x you are getting less than 5 minutes of very intense competition, while rally gives you hours of competition time. I get as much enjoyment out of a day of rally as I do a day of auto-x. I hope you can make it out in August, see you there.

MuddyWRX and teh Dirt,

The PBX is usually the Saturday before Thanksgiving. That would make it 11/19/05.
