Mazda MX-5 Miata

Hey I'm really new to cars, and I really want to get into them, if i have this car, what would be the recommendations for mods that wouldn't make the system tuning too complicated but benifit the car? Thanks

Well, if it's a miata, handling mods. Swaybars, strutbars, coilovers (or just a drop with lowering springs, whatever your wallet can afford). That's what I would personally go for.

Why would you want to? Last I know of, the internals of the miata weren't made for boost, thus you wont get all that high boost. If you want to run high boost, you'll probably have to do a lot of engine work.

Well, i basicly want to increase acceleration. I don't care much about top speed, what sort of things can i have done about that?

Probably your best bet would be to start with an intake. Maybe an exhaust also. If you want alot of power, best bet is a supercharger kit or a turbo. There are a few companies out there that specialize in forced induction kits. I've seen a Miata or two running 300 hp with forced induction. What year is your Miata exactly?

Hi Straightace,

If you're looking for balls-out straight line speed, I'm afraid you've got the wrong car. This doesn't mean you can't have a whole lot of fun with it, but you're not gonna be a drag king.

There are turbo kits available, and the one that is generally regarded as the best and most complete is the Flyin' Miata setup. They've got a couple of stages, and they can help you put out about 200-220 HP at the crank. Doesn't sound like much, but I've heard it's a kick in the pants in a 2300 pound car.

If you don't want to drop the cash on a turbo just yet, take a look at cowl-induction intakes. There are also a ton of aftermarket exhausts available, and the 10-15 HP you pick up can make a real difference on such a light car.

Handling mods are definitely a priority on these guys. They're all about the turning, and if you haven't noticed yet, off-ramps are Miata Valhalla.

My biggest piece of advice would be to hop over to the miata.net forums and do a lot of SEARCHING. A bunch of folks have asked the same question over there as you have here, and the answers they got are just as valid today, and you'll get the same reply. Rock the Miata, man :supz:

The 1.8l engine most certainly WAS made for boost. The mazda 323 gtx has the same engine and is boosted. I dont think it was sold in the US thou.

Ohh and to the op, you dont want to put a twin turbo on a 4cyl engine. 1 turbo will do ya just fine.

Suspension mods... yea it can use them too, but stock these cars handle pretty damn well. Mazda even offers a suspension pkg for them, look into this when buying the car.

Im trying to boost mine in a few months. Stock their just 2slow:rolleyes:
