I don't think any one Philly's events are pre-reg only. I find it very hard to believe. If anyone is there in the morning, look for the loud blue Saturn. That's me, say hi.

Yea, that thing was painfully loud. At least my car sounds half-decent.....I think it does anyway, I only hear it inside.

And thanks :) Being loud is fun. I drove by this group of people today in grid, and they had their backs to me, and I was a dick and blipped the throttle, and they jumped. It amused me.

Which car were you driving? The only TST car I recognized there was Dan's orange/red Skyline-engined Nissan.

I was there too. I showed up around 12ish. I think I saw jdmwrxwagon staging for the 2nd heat...did you have blue tape on your lights? Also saw the green kouki and the red zenki. Anyone see the Honda Accord with 4 foglights that looked like a wrx? The announcer was trying to get people that were parked on the street to come in and he called it a "Subaru".

The Silver Evo MR was pretty sick.

BTW WTF are kouki's?

piknockout
06-05-2006, 06:39 PM
Yeah, placement in Novice is based on the PAX classing. Essentialy you have your RAW time, and then there is a handicapped percentage placed on your time depending on what class you run in. If you run with others in your own class, then RAW time is the winner of the class. But if you run in a mixed class like PRO or Novice, then it's your PAX time that determines the winner of the class.

I unfortunately couldn't make it out this past weekend, but there are two more events coming up.

Sunday, June 11th at Atco Raceway in Atco, NJ with the South Jersey Region. Check out www.sjr-scca.org for more details.

Saturday, June 17th at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen, MD with Autocrossers Inc.

I will be at both events, just look for the "Yellow Thunder" tearing up STX. :D

Why am I in a faster class then other AWD cars with race rubber?? Can some brek this down for as to how their classification system works?? I'm more used to the SS and SM classification that seems to be a bit more fair..

I'm more used to the SS and SM classification that seems to be a bit more fair..I assume you are running in SM. SM allows lots of power upgrades, lots of suspension work and R-compound tires. FTD (fastest time of the day) was set by a SM car, Mike Fineburg and his EVO with a 32.962.

What modifications does your car have?

I was in AS class??? Not sure at all about what this class entails.. I just want to be sure I can choose the right parts to do better in theese races..My car only has a cat back exhaust, otherwise stock..I assume you are running in SM. Ah, I found the classification page..But I find it very strange that I am competing against cars with race rubber, which is very stupid IMHO..Unbelieveably, the Mini is in a slower class then the EVO, which is at a huge disadvantage on theese tiny tracks..Mabye I should look more into track days, seems to be more of my thing anyway..I find that half the time I am spending is trying to associate the placement of theese cones in relation to the track, and I always get it messed up..My RX7 would be more suited for this type of thing anyway..

and kouki is japanese for later.....so a kouki s14 for example, is a 97-98 s14

s13 kouki tail lights refer to the JDM 180sx tail lights from the last few years the chassis was in production

The rules let you replace the parts that wear out, but the rules are a little relaxed, because you can replace the shocks with double adjustables and still be in stock class.:bigeek:

so what is the number in the far right hand corner of the times list? is that your average w/handicap included? i knew there was better raw times than me in novice. i'm a bit confused still on the ranking.

piknockout
06-05-2006, 10:29 PM
The number on the far right in the Novice class is your PAX adjusted time. If you notice in the overall rankings, the time to the right in your Novice ranking is the same number. If you look at the times under the names, you'll see everyone's RAW times.

And peteyturbo, not sure which one your car qualifies for, but you should try to run STX or STU. You have many more options for upgrades and it is a street tire class, so no R-compounds. I think that could be more fitting for you.

Also as it relates to the course, Boeing is the smallest lot that the Philly Region SCCA runs on, so not a typical course layout. You should try and make it out to a Warminster or a Ripken Stadium event. I promise you'll find it worth your time. Much more open, longer, and faster. And you'll get used to figuring out the cones. After a few events it starts to become second nature. Now if only I could get myself to naturally look ahead!

Good times, I'm glad I went and polished up my grip driving skills. I think I got told that it was not a drift event about 4 times before I was even on track.. haha.. I still wonder how that plymouth boat out ran me. I know the guy was a seasoned vetran but damn, he really pushes that boat hard..

06-05-2006, 11:00 PM
Yeah, Matt's not too bad in the old boat. Even on a tight course like that. Also that course was one that was laid out near the end of last season, so there was no learning the course for him I'm sure.

I think I remember seeing you there. Only MR in that graphite color right? I got there around the same time. The MR with the 275s all around was after an older M3 (late 90's) and before a yellow Vette. I remember that b/c the older guy in the Vette was messin with him saying stuff like, "What does the MR mean? Master Ricer? Master Racer?" He churned out 33-32 second runs consistantly and was pretty quick in the last 180º turn, usually putting it on 3 wheels.

No, the "not a drifting event" was directed to the blue old school BMW that would drift some of the turns.

Why don't all of the AutoX guys put together a FAQ or something and make it a sticky?
