I barely drive it lol. It doesnt htich up at all.
Tooooo scarey for the roads, it only sees highway on very hot nights seeing as it shots 8' flames out the sides under the drivers door.

Nice man. From the pics it looks like a clean car. Do you happen to have some bigger pics?
Where did you get the cradle for it and tranny mounts? Or is it a custom job?

but why a 305 and not a 350? i don't understand? I've seen many rx7's with these swaps...did you do it yourself?
Drftpretty
06-02-2006, 03:52 PM
I did do it myself. I picked the 305 because I had one sitting around. My next swap would have been a Lt1 in a 3rd gen but I had a motorcycle accident and have lost the ability to stand/ work for long periods of time so this is pretty much out of the question. I bought the tranny mounts and accessory mounts from www.grannysspeedshop.com and the engine mounts I made.
If you're trying to be polite and ask for help just do it! I would be more than happy to coome down and lend a hand however I could :) I take beer and nudie pics for payment lol
I can take more pics at home if anyone has any requests. Or I can also attend the next meet on thursday of anyone would like to see the car launch...... That is, as long as I get my Griffin radiator in on time. Its a pain in the ass only being able to lay on your back for 5 minutes at a time.

Oh no, no swap for this car. If I had a base model without the sunroof and all that then yeah.
Grannyspeedshop sounds like a decent place. Someone that I know swapped an LS2 into a 3rd gen and he got some parts from them.
Edit: I would definetly love to check out the car when I get back.

Take note to how I had to modify the hood to fit the air cleaner lol.

Damn, you got 345 from a late 80's 305? Ditch the centerbolt heads, and get some real flowing heads.

Wow.
Have you by chance heard of the magazine Grassroots Motorsports? Those guys are all about swaps like this. You should check the forums out...www.grassrootsmotorsports.com.

I need to learn to weld so I can do cool stuff like this. I wanna put a SAAB 2.3 turbo in the back of a 1st gen MR2. :)

Cool project and clean install, good job. May i suggest that some wire looms would clean the engine bay up a little better?

Way ahead of you :) Those pics were from right after the swap. In fact, those pics are from before I even fired her up for the first time.
Im looking into a 350 or LT1 swap to put in but for now the 305 will have to do. IDK everyone talks **** on the 305 but it has always worked just fine for me. I dont really know what the engine ahs done internally since I got it from my grand father when he passed away but this thing is BAMF.
I went through 2 rotary engines and then I built and raced a 89 T2 engine which went when my oil cooler line burst on the track at maple grove :( After that I was done with a daily driver Rotary engine.

How do you go from doing something like this to worrying about how your APC tail lights look on the other car? Go back to doing this stuff, much more badass than spray painting tail lights.

In his defense, he is trying to make the taillights look less APC. :)

Nice car, always been a fan of the swap had a 88 TII 3 years ago rotary is ok but I think if I couldnt have another dsm I would build a ls1 FC.

IDK Im having som serious traction issues. I really cant hook up at all lol.
Im G-teching in the high 12's with the cam, 680cfm carb, weiland intake mani, flow tech, dual electric fans, Fluidyne rad., headers, and straight side exit exhaust.
With alittle tuning low 12's if not high 11's :)
All for under 5k and from a motor that I spent $300 on and didnt have to rebuild.
Thanks for feedback guys. Its only a matter of time before Ill be taking her to one of the TST track events.

If you've ever seen / heard a V8 RX7 on the street, they are anything but sleeper.
It is so painfully obvious they have a CSB under the hood.

there was one at Formula D today... from 1/8th mile away it was obvious there was no rotary under the hood.
there was also a V8 350Z there which sounded amazing...

5.6 Titan motor sounds badass.
Drftpretty
09-10-2006, 04:53 PM
^ I thought the 5.6l Titan was Nissans 305?
I had dual HKS draggers on my car, that was loud as all hell.
Then I had the pipes cut, bent, and flared to exit on the drivers side right behind the door. Now I have a nice amount of carbon/ burnt paint on my runner/ quarter panel :)
At first I cleaned the carbon off after ever drive. But I just leave it there now. If im really pushing it I can get some nice flames to strech backwards past my rear tire.
Or so Im told lol

I always wanted to do a CRX swap.
I was thinking about a Ford 2.3 Turbo FWD front end.
That would be insane.
