View Full Version : Anyone paint their stock calipers.

Just painted mine the other day. I went for black since they are puny (small) stock calipers, nothing interesting.

They were a nice ugly shade of corroded-brown before painting. Now they have a nice black gloss shine to them. Subtle, but clean. I also painted the rotor, the part where the wheel mates to. This was also rusty.

Btw, if you use a brush you dont need to spend an hour to mask off. It makes it a lot easier.

What kind of paint did you use? I've been thinking about doing this for a while now.

I used G2 caliper paint to do mine.

Looks great and protects them as well.

Same here been wanting to do it but kept putting it off. I have seen kits for brush on, rattle can, and two part epoxy type. I was thinking just spray canning mine but i can't seem to find orange caliper paint. I drive a yellow car so its either orange or red but i am really leaning tword orange.

Feel free to toss any sugestions my way

I painted mine with a kit I got from Pep Boys. The kit was less than 20 bucks and included everything I needed. The kit is from dupli color and holds up really well. I use acid to clean my wheels and the paint is still there and shiny. Also it is a brush on kit.

Brush on is definitely the way to go.

The G2 that I used was the same way.

yea +1 for the brush... i did mine, and cleaned them well and everything, but the winter/salt etc was a little harsh on them, and a lot of the paint has since come off.

good choice with black though - nice and subtle, esp if it does start to flake off!

I painted my SHO brakes 2 years ago with gold engine (high temp) spray can enamel. It has since wore off. I might touch them up this summer and mount some SSR wheels I have lying around.

Duplicolor engine enamal (i think).

1 can of spray, 1 cup to spray it into, sandpaper (high grit) and "brake parts clean" can to clean up the calipers prior to painting, 1 brush.

All for well under $10.00. I used a small handheld sander on the big parts of the calipers. I used my hand on the small areas and hard to reach areas. I sprayed it down afterwards with the cleaner and wiped with a rag.

Still looking good.

I'd rather spend $12-15 on G2 paint designed specifically for calipers. Saving $5 isn't worth the quality you sacrifice.

I hear ya... but what is the difference really? I mean its really just high temp enamel in a pretty package (with brush, instructions...ect).

The can in the box looks very similar to the can I used.... Nonetheless, it still looks the part!

I don't know, but that's exactly my point.

I know G2 is quality paint, and holds up to heat, cold, etc. I have no idea how the other brand will hold up, and it's not worth a savings of $5 for me to find out.

That's all I'm saying. It might be great. But I'd be really pissed if 6 months after I did the calipers, they looked like crap already.

agreed, but i did mine with caliper-specific paint, and they didn't last through the winter. i thought i cleaned'em really well too :(
