View Full Version : Best strut/spring combo in your opinion?

I am sick of hearing my blown strut bang around so i am trying to decide what to get. I really like koni struts but from what i read they only come in an insert. I know this is just as reliable as a full strut set up, i just dont want to get into cutting up my stock struts and maybe mess one up and be even more screwed. SO it looks like ill be going with the kyb agx's, unless anyone has any other options. I dont really want to go with a take off jdm part because I want new. As far as springs go i think i want the prodrives or the eibachs. I want something that is still going to sit nice, obviously not as low as my car sits now, but i dont want it to look stock either. If anyone has any suggestions, or is riding on one of these setups, some input would be much appreciated! Thanks

matt

Thanks pete, gc's look good stock too though. the wrx has that hideous monster truck look stock. Some springs keep it looking 4x4 ish and i dont want that.

Eibach Pro Kit/KYB AGX's

Cheap and reliable

I know H&R springs have the best drop, visually. Not sure about the spring rates though.

the struts on charle's car that subaruparts sells are STi type RA struts. Rallispec sells them for 931 a set, the STP/Eibach springs seem like a fairly good combo.

On the cheap, I would do KYB 4ways and a set of tarmacs :)

but then again, I know nothing.

Guess it doesn't help if I say that I have KYB-GR2's on mine coupled with H&R 1.3/1.2's that are something like 250/205 F/R respectively.

Love em, but I need higher rates. Still too much roll.

*edit*
Lies. 1.3/1.2 205/195 F/R.

The GC/Koni combo has been proven on the track many times and on the street.

I love my GC's. They ride great and have enough height adjustability.

i have eibachs sitting in my garage... havent gotten around to selling them but let me know if you want to pick em up. i liked them, but if i had the choice i'd probably get prodrives over them second time around... just a little stiffer and i like the drop they give.

p.s. of course now i've seen the light

They are said to eat the stock struts quicker than the Eibach or Prodrive, but if you are replacing them anyway...

Koni Yellows with your choice of springs.

Bryan, why do you prefer the prodrives? Are they stiffer, less or more of a drop? ANd i may take those eibachs off your hands pretty soon :D

ill agree with the GC's and Konis..

I might change my setup if and when i get the 05. These progress springs limit me to my choice of struts do to the drop over 1.8
