ok i was out in trenton the other night on my way home from 6 flags i was following a friend of mine and we got lost so while we were sitting in a parking lot my engine starts reving up to 1500 rpm and back over and over again so i hit the gas and take it up to 4000 rm than let it back down its only done it once since than i havent seen a check engine light i dunno if somthins wrong or not it was in my 98 firebird 6 cylinder 3.8 liter.

if you had your fans or AC on it will kick your RPMs up occasionally

Clean the Throttle Body w/t-body cleaner. Simple and cheap to do. Also worth a shot. Fords are notorious for that. GM, not so much but it sounds like your problem.

I dont think i have EVER managed to read one of your threads without getting a splitting headache. Psssssst, the . button and the , button are very valuable tools.....give them a try for christs sake, and good luck fixing your car!

You might want to do a tune up. It could be a ignition problem.
