Who has one they are getting rid of or where I can get one really cheaply?

I bascially am running out of money getting my car back to running order...I'm SERIOUSLY considering selling my 2ndary vehicle for the money...but that's a last resort.

I need something better than what I have...my eye has outgrown the camera...it can't handle some of the lighting I wish it could.

Also any suggestions.

I was thinking a D50 or (my god I wish a D200) a REBEL or a LumiX.

Well, I just bought the D70s w/ 18-70 kit lens in the beginning of April for $899 at a local camera store, and it's awesome. If you're looking to spend less, the D50 really is very close to the D70 for $300 less (in fact, jspek bought the D50 the same week from the same store). It does come with a cheaper 18-55mm lens, but if you want a high zoom lens you're going to end up getting another one anyway. If you can find a D200 not on backorder and you have the money for it, well then, :inlove:. Just for an idea on prices, the D50 18-55mm kit is $629.95 on B&H Photo, the D70s 18-70mm kit is $949.95, and the D200 18-70mm kit is $1,999.95 (OMG in stock).

If you're debating what to get, these review sites might be helpful, I read through almost everything before I got what I did:

if you decide to get the D70, DONT BUY THE S, ill make the regular D70 an S model by flashing the newer software onto the memory card. That will save u some more money on the camera, all the S model gets you is an updated software setup. Let me know.

You are correct in the fact that Nikon themselves made newer firmware available to previous D70 owners that would upgrade to the several changes they made there (improved autofocus system, easier to read menu design). However, there is a 2" vs 1.8" LCD as Bryan mentioned, an improved pop-up flash, longer battery life, and other minor cosmetic/accessory changes. Also, when I was looking at (non-scam) pricing, I found very little difference between the two.

In all honesty, if you want a great camera but don't want to spend that much, the D50 made up for the disappointments that some people had when they heard about the minor changes to the D70s from the D70. It really is "just" as good as the D70 for a decent amount less. Of course there are some differences (lens, SD instead of Flash, 1 control button instead of 2, minor feature differences), but nothing really to write home about.

well the fact of the matter is, I cant tell the diff between 1.8 and 2.0 inch screens, and for the money you can save a buttload of it by buying the d70 and having it flashed. If you are that advanced in photography and can notice a difference buy the S, if not save money and do it the easy way!

What kind of prices have you seen for the D70 kit? I have yet to really see any prices on a new body and from a reputable seller that are any less than what I paid for the D70s, save maybe $20 or so.

Although you are correct about the reflash, there are other differences in the hardware as well. Also, you will be hard-pressed to find a regular D70 in retail stores. The D70s replaced it a while ago so i would assume most if not all of the D70 kits are gone by now.

did your d70s kit with the 18-70 come with a standard or ED lens?

It's an AF-S DX Nikkor 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G IF-ED, or this (http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/1870.htm).
