Gauge Madness

If anyone has ever installed gauges on a car, you know what I'm talking about........Complete madness. By far the most frustrating install on my car yet. Heres the outcome.

It wouldn't of been that hard if I didn't have to pull off the dash. But since I put the gauges on top of the dash, the whole dash had to come off to run the wiring. Then there is installing the sensors. I had to tap the banjo bolt on the oil pedestal for the oil temp. Then squeeze my hand between the steering shaft to tee off the oil pressure sending unit for the oil pressure sensor. Then I had to install the tee on the fuel line for the fuel pressure sensor witch kept leaking. The fuel tee took the longest. It kept leaking. It was defiantly worth it in the end. Makes me less nervous when driving my car if I know what is going on under the hood.

You couldn't do that without taking the dash out? I just installed 10 guages in my race car and that was so much fun wiring all of them up and then all of the sensors.

Nope. The engine is very far back in an FD. So the dash is very thin. Theres no way I could of pulled the four wires for EACH gauge without removing the dash.

I like it, except the pepboys A-pillar gauge mount, you should've bought the exact cover for the A-pillar to put the gauges in

Just a temporary solution. I haven't had the downpipe tapped for the egt sensor yet. When that gets done I have a twin gauge a pillar for the boost and egt gauge. I didn't want to put the egt gauge in if it didn't work. I have enough to look at in the cabin allready :mrgreen:

putting the egt probe in the downpipe? maybe i dont know rotaries and the downpipe is right off of the block? if not, you should really try to put your egt sensor as close to the block as possible for the most accurate readings.

Yeah, the downpipe is right next to the block. I can't tap the turbo manifold because there is no room. Rotory manifolds only have two runners because it's a two rotor. So the manifold is very small. Plus if I tapped it on the mani it would probably melt. EGT temps for single turbo rotaries are pretty high. I'm gonna put it 3 to four inches after the turbo on my downpipe.

And the gauges are Defi' D series. They match my stock dash perfectly.
