View Full Version : Lowest Mileage Clutch Replacement??

So am I the lowest mileage clutch replacement on the board?
3250 and I am slipping already. I guess I added hp too soon when I am still learning to drive AWD. I slipped it too much at the track on Friday and now its slipping. ACT clutch is being installed in the next two weeks.
WHAT A SELF ADMITTED LOOSER HAHA..
348 WHP is all so far but still yet enough to do damage.
Anyone beat this record?? :rotfl: :supz:

My first two runs I slipped the **** out of the clutch and the 2nd one it slipped all the way down the track and I still managed 112. So yes I do think I could improve. Guys are getting 1.6 60ft so there is room for me to improve too. By how much on both counts, I am not sure. Probably wont go back until cams are in... I am really not trying to bust my xfer case.
Here is the "slip"

Yeah if you cut that to a 1.6 i think with alittle back wind you can edge into the 11's. Oh and what happened to you saying you just wanted to do boltons and have a fast evo... cams that ain't no bolt on lol.

LOL.. good point. I guess being this close to 11s I just want to get there now. I did not expect to run that close. Now I have the itch. So I will change that to now say I will NEVER EVER go with a different turbo..

First off, that's absurdly low mileage for a clutch replacement. Understandable, but still kind of stinks, haha.
But 348 WHP, 12.2 sec 1/4, with just an exhaust and tune. Good thing the clutches stink otherwise I'd be overwhelmingly jealous of you Evo guys. Instead I'm just really, really, really jealous.
:) Congrats!

So are u gonna bring the drag car or the twisty car on the run.
Pocket_Rocket
04-25-2006, 01:55 PM
LOL.. I will bring the Lancer if the clutch is in and broken in. Trying to get ahold of my guy at Union 7 in West Chester to see how soon he can do it or I have to wait until the 11th :( to get it done at TurboTrix. If the clutch is not in I may have to lead in the Cooper S but its no dog in the twisties but wish it had LSD and it has the run flats on right now.. I am kind of against the wall and have to act fast.

Just get a unsprung clutch so you won't have to worry about breaking it in.

I am getting the ACT Street clutch.. I want smooth rattle free engagement with more holding power. TT uses this on their cars and were installing on while I was getting tuned.. The irony..

I killed my last clutch in under 2500 miles. But that was on massive launches so that dont help too much. I probably had a good 50+ launches @ 6000 rpms.

with a new clutch you have enough power to get into the 11's just as the car sits. A customer of mine has a similar setup as you(turbo trix also did his tune) , only put down 4 more whp and he went 11.9@114, and that was a pump gas tune.

I am wondering how much the clutch played a part in the 12.2. I did slip it hard the run before and it was stinking. However, I am not so sure I will be trying on the new clutch.. I really just ran to see what the tune did.

Congrats on the time!
I was wondering how much power you'd be putting down after the tune (and Shiv is conservative. lol) Yeah, if you get a 1.6 60ft you've got a good shot at 11s. That's more than enough speed and power for route 125. And way too much for the stock clutch.

I will not be able to bring this car on 125 on the 5th for this group so I guess I had better order two tires for the Mini summer wheels. By the time I get it back next week from having the clutch replaced it will not be enough time to break it in correctly and 125 is not place for this.. HOWEVER.. It will be ready on the 13th for the Evo run

yea, i too burned my clutch out early in the game (5500 miles to be exact)but i heard it happens easily with even the lightest mods to an Evo. The stock clutch is small as ****!! i replaced it with a clutchmasters stage 3 and a ACT streetlite flywheel, and i LOVE it. Im not beating on it too bad (not as bad as i was with the stock clutch) but i hope it holds up for a while.

That is sick bro. I really want an evo 9, they make so much power. My friend dyno'd 378whp with tbe, o2 housing, fuel pump, intake and ecutek tuned by sean ivey. He just put his cam in and is going back for the retune and they say he should clear 400whp. I have these other jamacian friends from NY who already have the tune with cam on the 9 but he likes his evo 8 better for some reason. They said that once the 9 reaches a certain power, it is unreliable and doesn't run right.

Im hoping to get atleast 10k out of mine. But i doubt it!

The important question is.. how many messed up clutch melting launches did I have on mine? I would say that honestly there were two and one of them was terrible. Just try not to slip it too much. Total launches are about 7. I drive this car for pleasure only and have some highway miles on it so I can honestly admit that I learned the hard way from not being as familiar with the car as I should be to have it on the track. My bad.. but a stronger clutch was coming anyhow just earlier then expected.

I changed mine out at around 1000 miles. Yes, 1 thousand. Slipped the first time at the track. That was that. ACT went in right after that.

I could get it to slip, but I had to really be mad. Other than that it was a really easy clutch to live with on a daily basis.

Act is a good clutch, i am on my second act right now with a fidanza flywheel turbop trix tuned cams etc. my stock clutch went at 5000miles or so, the first ACT at about 37000miles i now have 50000 miles on the car the second act clutch the third set of tires the third set of breaks, by the end of the summer early next year i will prolly be getting another clutch, you can get the clutch smell about 20-30 times and then it starts slipping, so practice launching and you should be good with the act

You guys may not believe this, but.. I have about 150 drag passes, most were mid 12 second passes on my stock clutch and a few autoX's to go along, and it has about 15k miles still holding strong..Highest trap speed was 111 and best et was 12.22..I will knock on wood now:mrgreen:

Wow thats excellent.. I will admit that I found moving to AWD a challenge because of the hiccup when taking off and trying to compensate for that.
So far so good with the ACT Have not launched at the drag strip yet.

Its a flat spot in first when taking off. Its a fine line between bucking once and riding the clutch just a tiny bit to smooth it out. I have discussed with others who have experienced. Perhaps its only in the fast ones.. haha :finga: J/K

I thought the earlier year evos(03s) had clutch problems and then they fixed it. Arent people running 11s on teh stock clutch in 9s? If you dont have any plans on runing faster then 11.5 you might just wana just replace it with a stock clutch to save the trans a little. But if your like me and know you'll never stop modding your car unill your broke i would stay with act. I have one in my dsm and like it.
