They strengthened the frame which is good, and it appears Ford's new mantra is changing from 'Built Ford tough' to 'ECOBOOST ALL THE THINGS!!'

The aggressive design of the body is inspired by Ford's long participation in off-road racing, such as the Baja 1000."

"Power comes from a second generation 3.5 liter EcoBoost V6 that will produce over 411 hp, the output of the current 6.2 liter V8, while offering greater efficiency."

Needless to say, I'm a fan. I especially like what they did with the tailgate - it lets those driving behind you know that it's undoubtedly a Raptor, without giving the impression that your wife in the passenger seat is in fact your sister as well.

A lot of the guys who own raptors are not a fan of the motor at all. If you go onto the raptor forums pretty much 99% of the people on their are against it.

I remember reading about a shop a while back that put an ecoboost into one and how they loved it so much more then the v8.

It's just people stuck on the idea that they need the sound of a v8 to feel like they have power.

Also remember them saying it's pretty much cheaper to buy a donor vehicle then buy the ecoboost and all parts from Ford new.

From what my brother is telling me the guys who use raptors for what they are made for don't want to deal with turbos or a supercharger when off roading.

With modern engines/turbos I can't imagine there's that much lag... my buddy has a 2013 Ecoboost F-150 and thit thing moves pretty good. I haven't seen a chart of the torque per rpm, but I imagine it's fairly instant. I could be wrong though

They probably say some BS about 'reliability' and 'ease of mainenance' on the trails or some crap... But these aren't engines of yesteryear that are simple to work on/have a lot of space anyhow.

Most teams use aftermarket engines anyhow, custom chassis, and a body that is to 'resemble' a Raptor with suspension nowhere near stock.

I agree with you on modern engines/turbos, I don't think its anything to do with lag issues. From what my brother is telling me guys just don't wanna deal with the ecoboost. I have a few buddies with ecoboost f150s as well and they love them. For light towing and dd use they are great. I think the raptors guys who use raptors for what they are made for don't feel like dealing with turbos. That's the feeling I'm getting from my brother who owns a 14 raptor and is on the forum a lot.

i know some of the owners use the truck as intended but id bet its less then half. If i could afford a raptor i would have no issue with the ecoboost in it. they make great power and are easily modded, plus most offroading i used to do involved going mudding not rock crawling.
