I have some sad news.
A TST Member has passed away unexpectedly.
His name was Steven Landstra (TST UserID: Landstra)
I only knew him for 2.5 years through work and I introduced him to TST, but he introduced me to the world of racing. He was my racing instructor at the Thunderbolt track in NJMP, and he got me into AutoX. He taught me about the handling limits of my old Porsche and even let me go around the track in his wife's 500 hp TPC twin turbo Cayman S.
If anyone here knew him and wants to offer their condolences, the link is below.
For those that do not know Steve, he really was a true car guy. He bought his first sports car brand new in 1993. It was a red FD 1993 Mazda RX-7 R1, which he sold last year after owning it for 20 years. He won many SCCA AutoX events with that car in the 1990's and he had plenty of trophies to prove it. He daily drove a GMC Sierra, then a Ford F150. He upgraded his race car to a Chevy Corvette Z06 C6 and converted it to a real race car with rollcage, race 3" exhaust, racing CF seats, Hoosier tires, race fuel tank, and other goodies. He was a member of the Porsche Club of America and visited NJMP on almost a weekly basis as a racing instructor and member. He later bought a Mini Cooper S to daily drive and used the trucks as tow vehicles for the race cars. He got married right on the Daytona 500 NASCAR racetrack at the starting ceremonies to the race. His race themed wedding made the news as they traded in their tuxedo and wedding dress for racing suits. Steve and his wife Lainey literally raced down the aisle to the podium.
In his last few months, he got to experience his life long dream in Germany. The Autobahn and the Nurburgring. As I said, he was a true car guy. Please pray for his friends and family. Thanks.
