When I got my WRX I got it came with the factory short shifter. Is this really shorter than the stock one? It feels like a regular shifter to me. Maybe I'm just used to it. Sometimes I wonder "if this is a chort shifter what does the regular one feel like?" Just lookin for anyone's input with or without a chort factory shifter. And has anyone put in an aftermarket one and removed a factory one and was there a difference?

i believe it is quite shorter than the stock, but you can go even shorter if you want, kartboy is really popular, cobb also makes one that is adjustable, which is nice

I am not sure if the aftermarket lever is compatible with the OEM short shifter linkage. You might want to look into that before buying one.

Definately go with KB front and rear bushings for the cleanest shift. They pretty easy to do and if ya need help, we can throw your car up on my lift and do it.

I also have the factory STI SS and a KB lever. The Kartboy Lever shortened the throw quite a bit and lowered the Knob about an inch. I still have to install my kartboy bushings, but so far i really like the feel of the STI and Kartboy shifter combo.

you have to raise the car to do it? you cant just replace the bushings from the gear box when it is on the ground?

will just doin the bushings make a difference? The throw really isn't to long I'd just like to stiffen it up a little. And thankx for everyones input on the matter.

Just having the bushings makes a big difference. I only have the stock shifter in my car with the KB Bushings. My gf's father has an 03 with the oem short shifter and when he took my car for a drive he said he could hardly tell the difference between the two. I will be switching though to the KB short shifter though because I've been told with that and the bushings it's a very solid feeling setup.

I had mine up on jackstands and did them with no trouble...and I am definitely not 'skinny as hell

yes they do make one from Kartboy. Its a completely different one than the standard wrx 5spd though. I think they call it the OEM 5spd STi shifter.
