So the import laws in the United States allow cars older than 25 years to be imported into the US. 1989 Skylines can be imported LEGALLY into America. Sweet lawd. :banana::rally:

so to clarify... 1989 and below is open for import.. is this correct

Yes, but theres some niches.
It would have to be legally registered and insured in Canada first before import into the US if you want to take the route the guy in the jalopnik article did. In addition, its better to go to Ontario vs Quebec as youll probably find more complete cars. Montreal has hella driveline/engine importers though.
Importing your vehicle direct from japan without the canadian pass-through is a different story and you would have to do more paperwork if you want to drive it on the road legally. Best bet is a seller in canada who already has their car federally legal.

sorry to bring up a summed up thread again but what are the actual laws behind this? are they federal? or per state. Is the 25 year or older deal work as in the cars are considered vintage? do they not have to pass emissions/ other tests?
