Damn, it's been a while since I've posted on here. Not sure how many people I still know. But either way I thought I'd share this.

After 3 years running my automotive blog, Mind Over Motor, I have finally taken the time to put together a proper review article on my own 2004 STi.

I don't really have a good reason for why it took me so long, sort of a writing about your own children sort of thing, I guess. But I've had my car for over seven years, and it was definitely high time to put my thoughts on it down on paper for all to see.

Let me know what you guys think! :D

Nice write-up, but I do have to disagree 100% with the Evo vs. STi comments, where it was stated that an STi is more reliable than an Evolution. I may be biased as I've owned 3 Evos to 0 STi, however, a quick search of the for sale forums on either cars respected "home" forum (or hell even craigslist), you will encounter COUNTLESS STis with "rebuilt" or "new" motors to the single Evo with a rebuilt/new motor. Even with many cars that have similar modifications to yours. Evos are known to hold 500awhp stock block for years on end, an STi will pop just over 400awhp.

Also, you say that an STi is more composed on varying back roads surfaces with dips, turns, & bumps...I live in the Pocono Mtns and all that is around me is tight twisty mountain roads, never once have any of my 3 Evo VIIIs not left me feeling 100% while pushing these cars in those conditions. Im sure the same can be said about the STi, though I am only talking from personal experience. The fact that "Top Gear" claims the "Evo runs circles around the STi", & the Evo handles better & has no body roll in cornering, where as the STi while very good, is not as good.

What I will give you is, the STi is built with a better quality. It does feel more "solidly" built (I have driven STis, I drove an 04 STI & an 03 Evo 8 back to back before choosing the Evo). It is faster out of the box as well.

Again, this may be biased as I've owned 3 Evo VIIIs yet 0 STi, however I am speaking from personal experience, information gathered over the years on both cars forums, & professional reviews......don't count me out yet though...I've recently sold my last blue Evo VIII and have my eye on a slightly modded WRB 04 STI ;)

EDIT: Only think I can think of that you left out of your write up is how many miles you have put on the car. You say you got it as your first car & have had it 7 years, so surely it has some mileage to speak of! I daily drive all of my cars (Evos I've has, E46 M3, G35 coupe, etc..see sig..), and I know I sure put some mileage on them! Most being 14,000 mile in 4 months on my first Evo. (Yes, 14k in 4 months!) - My Apex Silver Evo VIII. I was working a job where I had to drive my personal car to various stores across the NEPA region, I was putting on an easy 120+mi. daily...work only! Between spending time with friends & the girlfriend, it was an easy 150+miles daily....!

Great write up. I, too, have owned my STi for 7 years (bought it new in Nov of '06). While it is NOT a perfect car, it IS the perfect car for me.
I recommend swapping in a 20G. It is a nice balance of usable, streetable power, relatively quick spool, and top end scream.
There are few things i enjoy as much as driving 150 miles of backroads on a cool, crisp, turbo-friendly morning in the fall. My face hurts from smiling when i'm done!
