This is for a class project. I wanted to talk about the drag racing scene in Puerto Rico and how much they contributed to the sport and made Puerto Rico look more like a "global market".
I was wondering if anyone here can tell me more about how Japanese cars were brought to Puerto Rico (were they directly from Japan or were the cars US-spec? I am thinking it's the latter because of US-PR economic relations) and how the drag racing just "grew" on the island. Was it like how it started in the US?
Thanks!

Maybe search for PR car forum to ask? Probably aren't going to get much help here on a forum with most members born/raised in the NY.NJ,PA area

honestly go on carrito.net as far as imports and Puerto rico car culture which is by far more than just drag racing. my uncle ruben was the vice president of Puerto rico historic car collector. he helped certified matching number cars for years there. when the oil inbargo hit in the 70's. he would travel in to mexico and buy as many muscle cars as he could and shipped them back to pr.

My puerto rican college friend always told me stories about how there is a big rivalry between Rotary's and V8's. And that the most popular cars are American muscle, Japanese muscle, and Rotary's. He also mainly spoke of drag racing and how his dad rebuilds classic muscle cars and takes them to the drag strip.
My puerto rican neighbor has an old rotary powered Toyota from the 70s that he used to drag race. Now it just sits.

Rotary scene was and still is king of drag racing over there, in my opinion.
