im not too familiar with 4th gens but i think theyre the same as my 87. GM used plastic gears and plastic ball bearings(dumbest idea eva!) After a while either the teeth on the gear get chipped and broke or the ball bearings turn into dust. My bearings turned to dust so I puuled the headlight out and pulled the motor aparts and replaced them with metal bearings, and no problems since. Dont feel bad, it happens to everyone.

Yep, they used a plastic gear. They should have put a metal one in instead.

just take the motors out...take em apart and flip the big gear over in the motor. reinstall and it will be good.
