New RX-7 for 2017

More than a few sources are talking about this. And the Mazda forums are talking about it too. Even NASIOC has a thread on there about it.

2017 Mazda RX-7 will be based on extended version of MX-5 chassis to allow for small back seats(likely not usable). 300HP Rotary engine Non turbo :eek:. But they said they might provide a turbo version later on. Priced around $30,000 to compete with Nissan 370z.

I have always been a fan of the FC and FD RX-7.
I hope all these sources are true:

No pics. I think pics will come out end of 2014 since the ND Mazda MX-5 comes out in late 2014 as a 2015 model and the RX-7 will be based on that car. A month ago, the Mazda guys were excited about an MX-5 2+2 coupe to compete with FR-S/BRZ/Genesis Coupe 2.0T, but then they just announced that it will be an RX-7, not an MX-5 coupe.

Official statement was given my Mazda's VP. He pretty much told everyone the plan for the next 4 years. Details about the new Mazda 2 release date, the Smaller CX-3 SUV they are developing based on the Mazda 2, the redesigned CX9. The new Mazda 3 release date, etc.

Seems to good to be true, the new rotary engine looked good in a showcase but I havnt seen the real thing in person.

If the new rx-7 was on the market instead of the rx-8, I probably would have been excited about it. For me, it's too late. I lost all interest in rotary.

I hope it will look good. Just reading that it will be based on the MX-5 made me happy since the MX-5 chassis is lightweight, rigid, and could handle lots of power.

300 HP NA sounds a lot like a possible NA 3 rotor....I would buy it just to have that sound and rev the crap out of it everyday.

There's a few cars I can think of that buck that trend...

Though Like motorcycles I feel like automakers are going more blocky/square with there styling.

I agree, 2017 is a long ass way away...Call me when theres an actual physical car to look at.
