Seems like more and more people are getting into cars these days. And recently there has been alot of threads about road racing on the forum. So what kinda driver are you???? Drag or Road racing/AutoX. If you don't make it to a track often then wich do you favor most???

Me, I'm a road racer for life. Ever since I saw my first porsche club race when I was 10 or 11 years old I was hooked. To me there is no better feeling than comming out of a corner at full throttle, feeling the rear end drift out and recovering it at over 80mph. I'm the kinda driver that heel/toe's when turning into the grocery store. I'v got it bad. I don't think there's any teatment for me.

I'm a drag racer all the way. I have grown up around drag racing my whole life with my dad racing for 30 some years even though I've only been around for 20. It is in my blood and I bracket race right now and will for the rest of my life unless I step it up to the ranks of the Sportsman racing. I remember watching a VHS that I have at the house of me at the race track when I was about 7 years old give or take a year, and I was pumping the jack for my dads '67 Corvette Stingray drag car.

I'm defenitely a road race and autocross guy. I like to turn my wheel. Even though id be scared crapless to ride in a rally car, im a pretty big rally guy too. A friend of mine has a rally team and I help him out and ive been totally drawn into the rally world.

I've recently converted to road race/auto-x from drag racing. I deliver pizza a couple nights a week so I practice alot of heel-toe and stuff like that. I've also been reading reading and reading, but I really need more seat time, which I'll get at the Novice school in 2 weeks:banana::wiggle:. I'm a class B commercial driver. I've thrown 17,000lbs trucks into drifts and recovered in front of cops. But my most recent was this past Tuesday when I rolled my boom truck at 40mph after swerving to miss stopped traffic after hitting the crest of a big hill. I got tossed out the front windshield too.. So, I guess I'm more of a stunt driver anymore :)

Track driver -- my car is just way to piggie for autoX
Never bothered throwing my car onto the dragstrip, its not meant for it.
Plus, nothing quite compares to the thrill of track driving, curves > all.

'I brake for apexes.' :driving:
That sums it up for me I'm a total corner junky. My car doesn't help the addiction either, it may not be the fastest thing around a corner but some how it eggs me on to go faster. And it's so easy to go fast, complete and utter confidence to press right to the ragged edges of the handling envelope. There's just something about going round corners that I find intoxicating. Racing toward a corner with your foot flat until the last possible moment and then hitting powerful brakes so hard that the ABS kicks back some. Lift slightly on the brakes and turn in, tires howling in agony, until you reach the apex and then lift off the brakes and measure out just the right amount of power until the corner exit. Then foot hard down again and repeat at next corner. I love it.

Keeping the tires right on the edge of losing traction throughout a whole autocross run is such a good adrenalin rush. Sometimes after a good run, I get out of the car and my legs are shaking. :) After an open track day at summit point, I told Myles (the instructor) that it wasn't as much of a rush as autocrossing, and he said that's because I wasn't going fast enough. And he was right, I'm a lot more comfortable at the limit where the only risk is hitting an orange pylon.

In terms of G-forces, in any typical street car, you can experience twice as many g-forces under braking or cornering than you can under acceleration. That's why drag racing doesn't do much for me, although I'm sure it would be a lot more fun in a real drag racing car.

road racing all the way. anyone can drive fast in a straight line, all you have to do is shift. (no offense to those who drag) it takes skill to go through a turn fast. drag racing is about tuning, not driving. plus not a whole lot can beat a bmw with a modded suspension in the twisties

I know the feeling.
I would like to road race very much, however I'll admit, after watching that Evo slam into the parked:eek: NSX, I’ve been a little reluctant to get on a track with severely novice drivers. I’m sure I’ll do it eventually, however, the water looks really cold right now and I’m going one toe at a time (if you catch my meaning.) I’ve done Auto-X and it’s fun (and safe.)

Currently as of late, I’ve been studying the fine arts of Wangan – "9 Ball" owns the George C. Platt Bridge, hommie.

not sure if you remember but about a year ago on the RSX forums one of their members was killed after travelling at high speeds over a bridge and the cross wind lifted the front end of the car and he ended up flipping/rolling a number of times iirc

I heard that was a myth. From what I am told the driver crashed at the top of the bridge from hitting road debris. Either way it sucks what happened.

I have hit >170mph over that bridge many times. Allthough, I only do it when I'm alone(no cars around me), and I slowdown before the top of the bridge because you can't see if someone is stalled(or broke down) on the other side.

no offense but driving anywhere near those speeds on public roads let alone over a bridge has to be one of the dumbest things somebody could do in a car :bigeek: :screwy:

No, I didn’t hear about that but it’s very unfortunate. There was also a Porsche owner that was killed last spring/summer on a track (Pocono I think) and his wife and kids were in attendance. It’s just that every time I think about hitting the track, I read about a big crash… it’s a little disconcerting.

As for the bridge – there’s a touch of humor in what I wrote. Yes, I push my car every now and then, but you won’t see me producing my own Option video anytime soon… that would be crazy.

It's not hurting anyone but your self if your all alone. I'm not talking about doing it at 8pm when there are people around. I'm talking about doing it when the bridge it totally desolate@4am. If you crash your hurting noone but yourself.

Drag racer! I literally was a fetus in my mother's womb the first time I went down the 1320......yes my mom was a drag racer and even a track queen back in the 60's. My dad was really into it back then but stopped shortly after I was born but his business is based around cars and I've been around it all my life. I started in the domestics and moved on to the modern day muscle cars.....the imports
