Can a TPS make the turbo not spool?

Well I dont kno anything about turbo's. I asked around so I figured that would ask the people on here. There is a car that I am going to look at. A guy I know is selling a 1985 Chrysler New Yorker with the 2.2 turbo in it. He said that it needs a TPS so he unplugged it. Then he said that the wastegate is shot. I did some research and it seems that they normally dont go bad. The parts stores dont sell them. It runs good but the turbo doesnt spool up. Could a bad wastegate or TPS cause this or something different? I am going to look at the car tomarrow after work. Anything I should look for?

sounds more like a broken/locked up turbine. if you can, take the induction ducting off, and start the car and see if the turbine spins or not.

it sounds like it could have something to do with the boost control solenoid/waste gate. if the car thinks its not "under load" it wont build boost, just if you were to rev it in neutral. tps seems unlikely though but then again im not a chrysler expert. but my guess is boost control system

When you say doesn't spool do you really mean doesn't build boost? If the wastegate is stuck open it won't build any boost. That has an internal wasgate so that is why you prob can't find them at the parts store. Check for shaft play or see if the wheel is broken, or all chewed up.

The TPS is your throttle position sensor and has nothing to do with your turbo building boost.

If its not building boost you have to look for what could be leaking it, wastegate, vacuum lines ect.
But if it really doesnt build boost it's because of the "shot wastegate" and like previously stated its most likely stuck open or he has it open for a reason and not telling you (turbo could be mad shot and doesnt want it going into boost before selling it)
It sounds scary, I would avoid this.

as mentioned: avoid this car. if you are looking for a car to get you to/from work then a 1980 anything is prob not a good idea. Let alone a old turbo chrysler with a bad turbo and god knows what else. You also mention you don't know much about turbo cars.... keep the cavy

yea im gonna pass it up. I took it for a ride and it rode nice. But i really just didnt like it. My old 1983 buick shyhawk got totaled from a lady hitting me, it was the perfect work car. So im on the hunt for another work car. My wife drives the cavy.
