is this your first S chassis car???

if so you really need to do your research before taking on this project....there are numerous write-ups on zilvia and nico club regarding SR swaps...hell SCC even had a whole project car about this

congrats on the purchase though and welcome to the family :partyman:

i have been reading ALOT. the information is endless.. work till four, work on the car till nine, read for two hours and then go to bed.. that is how my days are looking.. lol. this is my frist 240, my first RWD car, and will be my first Turbo car. my last car was a probe. im just taking it slowly, i dont see any reason to rush.

your first RWD car???? you should spend a couple hundred bucks...throw in a running KA and LEARN THE CAR...i've seen way too many guys pick up 240s as their first RWD car...instantly drop in an SR (like you are) and proceed to total their cars within a year (and i've heard it all...."i'm going to be real careful....i'll be responsible....blah blah blah" lol)

WOW you must know the guy i sold my car too! i pretty much had it setup for drifting , and he bought it, 2 weeks later had a redtop sr in it, lost control around a turn, i assume drifting and flipped it a couple times, passenger had to have his spline (sp?) removed (so i was told).

I love 240's and rwd. but be careful man, if u dont know how to control the car, when its uncontrollable, you will crash.

good luck, and u can PM me with questions im familiar with the SR swap/setup. :supz:

auk i think you meant to speak english in your post above, and if it was what i think it was, stop being uber rude and taking bets on when people are going to crash their cars, thats messed up.
and of course any knowledgeable people here are encouraged to share their experiences here but it looks like he has made his mind up about the swap so lets try to keep the thread on the intended subject, not a debate over whether he should aim for 100 whp or 200 whp.
congrats on the car, i'd like to pick one up some day as a weekend toy.

Talk to Jim from J-tuned motorsports. He gets some pretty clean cars. I know he is working on an S13, which will have an SR20DET, so he should be ordering a motor for it soon.

call JARCO Inc. they get the best front clips and if you have a problem with it they take care of you :supz:

btw, don't buy just and engine and tranny....spend the extra cash on a front clip....it gives you the assurance of the true mileage on the engine, you definitely WON'T get a cut harness, and you usually get some extra "goodies" that are on the clip

Getting a clip is accually a really good idea now that you mention it... it would give me all the things required to get my car up and running, and i owuldnt have to go scavengering around at junk yards...

A clip would come with all the parts i will need for my manual conversion right? all i would need to get ontop of the clip is motor mounts water pump, and al the mateeince stuff. Right? the clip will come with a smic?

How do they deliever a whole clip...? How do you get rid of it when you are done.. lol..

If i did get a clip, anyone want the body panels and bumper and stuff?

OK I'm a noob wtf is a front clip?

TROLL
04-09-2006, 02:59 AM
they take an entire car and cut it at the a pillars and give you the front half of the car basically. so you get everything including the dashboard forward, including the transmission most of the time. they are configured differently every now and again but its basically the entire engine bay and wiring, and sometimes the front axles/brakes or maybe even the driveshaft and rear axles/brakes as well.

i mean look at that price $4500 for an RB26DETT front clip??? :bigeek:

A front clip should come with everything you need for the manual conversion and the swap, just do the basic maintenance like you said. Most clips will come with a SMIC, small chances it could come with something upgraded, may not come with one at all.

Pretty sure the clips gonna come on a flatbed. Dunno how your gonna get rid of it, you could always find someone who wants to an a RHD convesion and sell it to them and let them worry about it.

Alot of places remove the front panels from the front clip.

wow, you guys are mad helpful. thanks for all the suggestions. One more question.

i work at pepboys, and i was takling to one of the techs, and he was saying it is stupid to get teh s14 black top with VVT if i plan on cranking up the boosttttttttt. My question is why... what wtf is the difference between the s13 black top and s14 black top. they seem to be putting out the same numbers out of the same block... does one run more boost from the factory?

Bryan
04-09-2006, 02:40 PM
I'd go with the s13 blacktop, the s14 has VVT and has a larger turbo, but if you upgrade the turbo and upgrade the cams it pretty much nullifys the positives of the s14 SR.

sisforsurfing
04-09-2006, 06:27 PM
Isn't the head also differen't on S13 engines? I thought I remembered something about the S13 has a high-port head as opposed to the low-port head on S14 engines. I know the S14's come with a T28 as opposed to the S13's T25, but I'm sure a mid-range turbo upgrade (GT28RS or something) will make the differences between the engines negligible.

US_R33

info on all the sr20det engines you can get....def. need to read this

http://srownersclub.com/jdm_engines.asp

and here's a link for their full swap package
http://www.srownersclub.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=HT&Product_Code=PKG-ENG-BASIC&Category_Code=PKG

as for the s14 sr20....the VVT is definitely a nice thing to have on the car....and once you upgrade the turbo and injectors and get full stand alone (do it right the first time) you'll be able to tune the VVT to work even better :supz:

the s14 and s13 turbo size difference is negligible.....the s14 turbo runs a t28 compressor housing but retains the s13 t25 exhaust housing

i'm tellin you though....do yourself the favor and just save up some more money and drop in an RB25DET.....you're going to thank me later

i've driven too many sr powered cars to count and they just don't compare to driving an rb powered car :supz:

here's your complete auto to manual parts list
http://srownersclub.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=HT&Category_Code=ATMTSWAP

you can save yourself some money by buying the one piece steel driveshaft (sr20 of course) from the drive shaft shop rather than the aluminum one....yeah its heavier but you're not going to be anywhere near the performance level where its truly beneficial to have an aluminum drive shaft

ok, so im still confused. Acording to that article, the black top and red top s 13 motors are COMPLETELY the same, just with different colored valve covers... lol..

nother thing, i wsa pulling out the ecu today, and im pretty sure its not coming out. Through the firewall i mean. Is it Yed undernieth the dash where i cant see? im afraid to start taking apart the dash, becasue of the air bags...

auk113
04-10-2006, 08:00 AM
Physically they are the same, blacktops are newer. blacktop ECU have different timing and fuel maps. s14s have 2 different power plugs, on of them being F3, the main power plug is under the dash behind the ecu, you will need to unplug one of the replays that's behind the ecu. then everything will come out as a whole

not much at all, doing a fuel pump is PAIN THE ASS, make sure not to brake off the floater. gas tank in molded to the back seats in s14s so i wouldn't do it there, there is a less then 1/2" of clearence between the tank and the deck

Go with an S14 motor. The VTC and T28 do make a significant difference. Plus I'm a big fan of sticking with the same motor/chassis, but thats just me. This is my 95, been driving everyday for the past two years with roughly 300whp, A/C, PS, and zero problems since install:

In the US the S13 was the 240 from 89-93 I believe. Then came the S14. We never got the S15 over here. I know the 13's and 14's ran side by side over there until like 98.

They made the 180sx up until the late 90s because of its popularity. It origionally came with the CA motor (thus 180) but was later given the SR.

180sx = USDM 240 hatchback
Silvia = USDM 240 coupe
Sileighty = hatchback with the silvia front end.

Nissan S13 Chassis Codes

S13 in general refers to the '88-'94 chassis. This includes the coupe and the fastback.

'88-'90 S13 Silvia CA18DET
'90-'91 RS13 180SX CA18DET (R for fastback)
'91-'93 PS13 Silvia SR20DET (P for SR)
'91-'98 RPS13 180SX SR20DET (no distinction between the two different minor model change, last minor change was the inclusion of the double round lights and a more squarish front bumper.)
'91-'93 KPS13 Silvia (K for SuperHicas)
'91-'93 KRPS13 180SX
'89-'90 HS13 240SX KA24E (H for KA24E)
'89-'90 RHS13 240SX FB
'91-'94 MS13 240SX (dunno chassis code for convertables)
'91-'93 RMS13 240SX FB(M for KA24DE)
'91-'93 KRMS13 240SX FB w/ SuperHicas
'91-'93 KMS13 240SX w/ SuperHicas (Canadian market only).
'94-'98 S14 Silvia SR20DET
'94-'98 CS14 Silvia w/ SuperHicas
'95-'98 S14 240SX KA24DE (no specific S14 code for KA24DE)

actually the s13 chassis was built until the end of the 1998 model year as the RPS13 (180sx) and around 1994 Nissan started running the SR20DET in the 180sx

furthermore, the 240sx hatch is the exact same car as the 180sx just w/o the CA18DET (zenki) or the SR20DET (kouki) engine in it

the RPS13 is the chassis code for the s13 hatchback chassis while the PS13 is the chassis code for the s13 coupe chassis
