For those who did not already know, we are lucky enough to have a pretty badass Automotive Museum here in Philly. I dont know if anyone is even interested in the Simeone Automotive Museum, but I wanna get down there soon. They are always having manufacturer and period events, lots of old stuff you probably wont see on the road.

That is definitely a "must go" place. I've also known about it for a long time but just never got down there yet. But I will for sure this summer. You can get a behind the scenes tour if you go with a "special group" that can arrange that, and see all the restoration and maintenance work being done. Sometimes they also fire up the cars and drive them around the property.

That Daytona is amazing, awesome racing history and an awesome history outside racing as well... definitely the most fascinating of the handful IMO.

Nice place, I've actually met Dr. Simeone and he's great too. Everyone should check this place out

Sure, it's no fun at all looking at first hand photos of some of the most significant racecars ever made, most in full-race patina not some cleaned up show piece.

I'd like to see you post all you got!

I've been there before. Its an interesting museum if you enjoy racing history. What's nice is they bring the cars out of the museum and drive them around during their monthly demonstration days. Also they do special exhibits such as racing motorcycles.

I pick up their card at the Philly Auto Show every year but I have never gone. I have to get off my ass and get down there.

The museum is having a demonstration day on the 28th of July.

http://simeonemuseum.org/events/2012-driving-demonstration-days

July 28th
Ferrari Beaters

In the 1950s, 1960s and into the early 1970s, Ferrari was the car to beat in international competition. We’ll look at three cars that did this successfully.

1958 Aston Martin DBR1
1967 Ford MkIV
1970 Porsche 917

On display only:
1958 Ferrari 250 TR
1963 Ferrari 250 LM

The last demonstration day was pretty interesting. Its not that often that you get to be that close to a 917, GT40, Daytona coupe, or Ferrari race car and see them driven around. There is another one August 25th.

August 25th
The Effects of Competition

We’ll look at four landmarks in racecar engineering and the innovations they spawned by the need to win.

1909 American Underslung
1924 Lancia Lambda
1956 Jaguar D-Type
1966 Ford GT40

Damn, I'd love to go but I'll have to wait for another one. Next weekend I'm committed to go to Macungie, PA for the Wheels of Time show since I'm shopping for a nice, completed (non-project) roadster.

I was there for the Ferrari Beaters drive day. What a great museum and the demos were awesome. 917, Daytona Coupe, MK2 GT40, and an Aston Martin DB1R.

The Simeone Foundation is having a special demonstration day on Saturday. They will be showing their 1964 Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe alongside a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO. These are great events to see very rare, expensive, and historic cars up close. Dr. Simeone usually gives an excellent history of each car and their importance in the evolution of sports car engineering.

I saw the Daytona and the GT40 on a demo at the museum a few years back. Great sounding cars. GT40 even shoots flames...
