Here are some pictures of the 2012 set up. The car is tuned by Kevin Black and was built on a some what small budget. The fab work was done by Mark @ Hell Bent Race Cars & Customs. The car is still streetable. I take it to work about 2 days a week and leave the chute on and everything.

1/4 mile time?
All last season we were chasing trans issues. The car wouldn't shift above 8,000rpms but the fastest pass we made ( which is embarrassing to say ) was a 11.17 @ 131. That was basically short shifting every gear just to put a number up. This year we put a SQS dog box in the car so we should be good to go.

The low budget thing is because I can't pony up and afford to run Outlaw SFWD and compete. We can ALMOST compete in Trust Street/SFWD with this setup

Well my side business is a own line parts store. I am goin to contact a moderate on here and see how much to advertise on here . But to answer the question I bought this car new off the show room floor back in 2003 when I was 17 so since then this car had numerous set ups on it so I would say i have about close to 70k into it.

My friend has a 450hp VW that is about dead even with my Z06. I drove his car and don't think it could handle much more power because with r comps on it there is traction issues.
I can't see how almost double that power does anything more then dyno queen.
Still an awesome build though.

The car does 1.68 60fts and we can get them lower when we finally get all bugs out of the car.
As for the traction comments this isn't 1999 anymore. We control the boost with the rear wheel speed. <3 SEM
How could anyone compare a Honda to a VW? Honda's better flowing heads, better Trans, and weigh a lot less.

You mean Track queen that's good for single digit passes with the right tire's/slicks (or in this case) tranny set up.
I would think even RWD cars would have some issues with R comps and 800whp.

Love the "this isn't 1999 anymore" comment.. It's so true.. Way to many people still think if somethings FWD it's prob. only good for 14 second passes and anything over X amount of HP is a waste. It's like they only sit on the internet and go to sonic meets rather then actual Race events...
Major Prop's to you for this Build.. I would walk past just about every Retailed 70k car to check yours out and spark up conversation because of the work done.

Well, in away it is a problem. Any RWD car will hook better then a FWD car but these cars (FWD) are coming a long way with traction. But yes I do feel like people still think it is "1999" and have a close mind. I don't care what it is, if it makes power I like it.

How does a car spin while the driver is shifting ? :(:( remember the car didn't have the slicks on in any of the videos.
Other then the fact it is a vw? Really? A lot of people need to get out of that stage where they hate something because of what company/country it was made in. A true car person would appreciate anything that makes power.

Thanks, but there is actually a bunch of people that are putting power and numbers down. 2 of my close friends are making waves in the SFWD and true street class. Todd Pavics is running a 20v in a mk3 and it runs 9.4x @ 155 and tim Mullen is running a STOCK vr6 with head gasket, head studs and main bolts and that thing is running 9.7x @152 ... Not bad for a fwd car with major traction problems right? Oh i forgot to mention these cars still drive on the streets and Todd's car has full interior

So you really think if something has "built" internals it shouldn't blow up? Another dumb statement. Just because it had a built bottom end doesn't mean it is safe. If a 4cyl is making 800whp that is 200whp per cylinder. Just to make you realize something that one cylinder is making more power then these cars came from the factory with. Smarten up kid.

You can't give any good examples of a engine that isn't built right.
The only thing I could think of is if the MACHINE shop doesn't do good measuring while boring the block. As I said before just because you put Rods/pistons in a engine doesn't mean you are completely safe. Look at top fuel cars they have Rods and pistons and constantly blow up.
I can tell you are a keyboard racer/engine builder.

For all the people hating because its a VW, its a shame. I think it bugs people to see a VW that would smack up 90% of this forum in a race (bench or otherwise), and isn't on a silly air ride setup or 16x9s just to be cool.
This car was built to be fast - what i miss about the scene since all the skinny jean stance losers showed up and ruined modern car tuning.
Followed this on Vortex, KILLER build, work looks so well done. Hopefully you make it to at least one of the shows at a track that I'm hoping to attend. I wanna see this go live.

Funny cause just a few months ago (if that) you were making numerous posts on here asking for help with your car, for multiple issues. If memory serves me right, it didn't even run for a while when you got it. And you haven't built cars from the ground up.... Helping someone who is, handing them parts and holding things in place for them don't count as building a car. Also, didn't you make a post asking about going to school for automotive on here too? Actually I got it running and ripped apart the top end to torque the head down and fix an oil leak, and it runs rich but would I call that a problem? yes but I can still drive it every day. And really because I'm pretty sure the first car I build was a 65 mustang, and the only thing I DIDNT do was the windshield and paint. And a 442 and a 73 pinto and a 3 rotor rx-7 motor, I was asking about colleges, cause I didnt do four years of tech and have a montco degree or anything, or my eligible for my ASE's in power steering, auto trans, manual transmissions and suspension.

I'm a Honda guy through and through, and I dislike pretty much every VW on the planet. This however, is not one of them. Great power, fast as hell, and the work that went into it is awesome.
And just for the record, there is a great difference in mechanical ability between putting together an engine and building a 800whp 4cylinder car. I can look up instructions on how to do the former for starters...

Agreed. I have owned to VW's before, 2004 GTI and a 1991 Jetta, and I am not a fan of VW's at all. However I think your car is a great example of breaking the sterotype of certain makes of cars and is a great build. As much as I do not like VW's I would stop and talk to you about your car at a car show because it unusual and makes good power.

you have given me faith in humanity...
congrats on not being like the rest of the VW crowd and making a fast car. I really like this car and appreciate you breaking the mold. Lets see some low 10s out of this bitch! going fast costs money no matter what platform you start with, the fact some people like to try it with a non cookie cutter platform deserves more respect then some factory high 11 second car guy knowing how to turn a wrench and order a mail tune for low 11s.
also I don't understand all the fwd ignorance honestly... yes it is harder to get traction with big power, but that applies to any car. It is possible to hold traction. For example, going to see kyle race with 1060fwhp (dynoed before nitrous and only on 30psi) he's upset with the 1.6 60fts he is currently putting down. Most of our guys are in the 1.5s on their good runs and rarely pulling high 1.4s.

Thanks guys for all the kind words. Sorry I haven't been replying much I am going through some health issues and it's been beating me down fast. The car is in NJ now getting wired for the new standalone but I just need to run out there and take care of some Trans issue real fast. But as for the comments about making power is hard I disagree. Any monkey can make power the key is keeping the engine together.
