Now I know why a diesel truck needs a 6 inch exhaust, but why does a dsm need one again?

Hmmm...I guess you haven't seen mine then.

At least mine doesn't sound as bad as it looks though.

I can launch pumpkins from mine.

Hahaha, Giant brand soda. Ahahaha that's great. I work at Giant, that's why it's so funny. By the way, that "Rally Cola" is awful.

Lots of DSMs have those huge tips that come out of the bumper at assinine angles.

I like my angled N1
And it's done for a reason, not just to look cool. It cuts down on the number of bends in the exhaust.

I think it looks good. Hmm I'm not sure about DSM>Deisel all the time. I know a few trucks that can hang with alot of the cars out there. Either way seeing that picture is great. How big is the rest of the exhaust. A 6" tip on 1 3/4 piping means nothing.

My tip is only 5" (4.8" after conversion or so) on a 2.20 piping. *sniffles* Makes me feel weak in the rice world now.

I guess you mean 2.25 inch, so that's not to bad. I have 1 7/8in headers into 3" collectors. Then 2.5 inch reducer to a MagnaFlow X-pipe. 2 1/2 Flowmaster Muffles and over the rear is still 2.5in. I can't imagine hanging dual 5" off each side lol.

Last I checked the gs-t has a 2 litre motor, it appears as though the 2 litre bottle does not fit, so Jess != ricer. What about hood scoops that can double as vacation homes? Or wings that can serve double duty as picnic tables?

The N1 is one of the best exhausts they make for my car. I get a lot of compliments on the way it sounds. It's a turbo-back, 3" exhaust.

No.

For Subies.... you have the exhaust header pipes for each side of the engine. Then they join other with another pipe, prior to the turbo. This section is referred to as the "up-pipe"

Sure it does. A bigger tip (if coming from a bigger muffler) will allow more air to escape, thus reducing the squeezing sound that CRX's commonly make.

A big tip slapped onto the end of a muffler won't do squat but look bad and probably sound worse. As it is, my car sounds a LOT better than it performs.

I'm pretty sure it sounds just as bad as it performs.

A bigger tip will do nothing but look ricey on a muffler. If you have a 2.5" inlet, it doenst make sense to have anything larger than a 2.5" outlet. Do you see race cars running 5" Tips? Nope, they all run the same size tips as the exhaust.

Wow...What a comparison.. You find that having 2.25"-2.5" piping requires you to use the same size tip...I find that to be the biggest joke i have ever heard. Factory exhaust are designed that way, Aftermarket systems i have yet to see that.

Most cars that have a 2.25-2.5" system will most likely utilize a 3-4" Tip to accomendate the extra exhaust flow that is now coming out. Or you can be like me and make people think you have a turbo, by using turbo exhaust tips that make this really hot spooling sound that a real turbo would make.

Any decent exhaust company is trying to make money buy selling the exhaust to you so you'll buy it for the eyecandy.

Look at any purpose-built, no-nonsense car that makes big power. The outlets on the mufflers are exactly the same size as the inlet.

Tip size doesn't influence sound as much as the thickness of the piping does. A thinner-walled pipe will reverberate/rasp more than a thicker walled pipe. Big tips are for eyecandy, as has already been said.

Lots of DSMs have those huge tips that come out of the bumper at assinine angles.

It's partially because manufacturers think that everyone wants a HUGE tip on anything with a 3" inlet.

If someone can find me a 3-3.5" muffler with a small tasteful tip that will fit in my car (very short area for muffler), I'll jump on it. I am sick of my 5" dunk tip.
