View Full Version : H22 in a Del Sol

Wow I just got my h22 engine mounted in my Del Sol. That was the biggest pain in the ass ever.

I used AVID motor mounts. None of the mounts lined up to the frame or mount points. I had to drill all the mounts through holes out so the bolts could go through the mounts and into the frame.

Glad its done and just venting really.

Pics? How's it run?

Typically how it goes with hybrid swaps - especially with the H series, i've never heard of a set of mounts that don't require modification :/

I've been wanting to do an H swap in a 'sol How's it drive? - bet it's pretty peppy for a little car lol

Oh I am nowhere close to it running. Lol. I was just happy I have the motor and trans in.

I am a DSM guy and thought this would be a fun little project and it has turned into a nightmare. The car needs to be wired, new axles, and paint. Then it will probably be up for sale.

Two project cars is no way to go through life. Lol

i forget what i ran back in high school (01)

but when we swaped the b18c(head) & H22(block) in my Delsol. I had a buddy of mine fab up mounts.

the car got totaled & sold all the parts off it, i think that the mounts i used are still floating around

is the H series still a desired swap (i have been out of the honda game for a LONG time) but i thouhgt people were more into swapping in K's?

From the little research I did K series = $$$

I have less money in the entire car than a good K series engine would of cost me. Mind you I dont run in honda circles so I dont know where to get cheap Honda parts. So my prices where based off forums, ebay and craigslist. I dont know a guy who knows a guy who is parting out a K swap... etc.

The H22 swap seemed feasible, price and effort. I find the effort part was greatly underestimated.

All said and done I will have about $3500 into the car, engine and paint. I would hope I could get atleast $4000 selling it. But I guess the market will determine that.

K motors have been coming down in price a bit. I'm sure an H in that car will be peppy.

x2 on swaps being kinda pricey. But have you checked out http://www.jdmland.com/? They have a bunch of cool stuff for different motors and chassis'. Also http://www.jhpusa.com/ has good stuff.

Thanks for the tips on places to buy stuff, so far I have just been getting things from the dealership. I have a friend who gets good prices.

It better be peppy. From what I read is since it is a JDM block with the scary high top pistons I should be putting down mid to low 13s. So that will be enough for this car.

The last thing I really want to get for the car would be a new intake manifold. I really don't like the dual runner with 4 throttle body design. I want something simpler like... a regular intake manifold. I have that phenolic intake spacer right now and it looks really ghetto on the car. Looking at it makes me shiver...

I'd imagine you'll be doing low 13's high 12's

Average 4th and 5th gen Preludes run mid 14's and they weigh around 3,000lbs

H22a block from possibly a Type-S Prelude. If you have the entire motor, it'll be "fun" lol

Intake spacer? As in one in the middle of the intake manifold? I've honestly never heard of that spacer. If you want an "ok" manifold for the H22 - i suggest getting a Euro-R. It's off a Euro-R accord (which has another version of the H22)

i dont want u thinking that the car will go low 13's... a real time to shoot for would be around 13.8. Your motor is stock and the del sol is not really that light of a car... i would tell you tho that u might look into which set of mounts lets the motor sit the highest. Ground clearance is a pain in the ass when your buying 4-1 race headers. especially when they are 750-1500 a peice lol. take your time cutting in your shifter. it will make a big difference when you try to fit your interior

13.8 is good enough for me and is definitely realistic. If I want to go faster I'll jump in my DSM  If it is running that is...

As for clearance, I have coilovers on this and it will be jacked up like a monster truck until I am comfortable with how low I can drop it.

I bought a new wiring harness since the one the kid sold me with the car was missing 90% of the connectors. And a sidenote, damn these harnesses have a lot of plugs on them. And who decided to make every plug the same? I am color blind so I'll definitely need a buddy helping me out matching wire colors to sensors.

Coilovers aren't the answer. The car will have a weird stance to it if you are too high just from the suspension. U want to be lowered with the motor as high as u can get it. U will be kicking yourself in the butt.

If you need help, I can do your harness, Ive done more h-series harnesses for the del sol that I can count on one hand with.

Lol I wish I would have saw this earlier.

Actually I gave up on the project. After getting ripped off on my second round of parts I bought for this car I decided the Honda scene is not where I want to be. I am heading back to, not that I ever left, the Mitsu scene. After all the parts I bought for my eclipse I never once had a bad deal.

After two wiring harnesses that were supposed to be plug and play, bad axles, empty distributor, motor mounts that were supposed to fit, and a handful of bad advice. I gave up. I sold the shell to some kid down in OC MD for $650. Now I have a JDM H22a swap that I need to sell. Ill do a for sale ad soon if anyone really cares.

But yep its gone and I am glad I really didn't need all the stress this thing brought me from the lies people kept feeding me. I couldn't handle dropping another $500 in parts for a car that not worth what I had in it.

Sorry to hear man.

It sucks that many of the people in the Honda scene aren't very trustworthy.... but that's how it is i guess :(

Put an ad up on ClubCivic.com, I'm sure someone will want a JDM H22 in their EK or EJ.
