For those of you who have seen the website Nick (ndubs) occasionally links to, Mind Over Motor, I'm the other editor. I went to the Fort Lauderdale International Auto Show while on vacation this weekend, and convinced someone to let me sit in a locked BRZ. Enjoy.

The silver accent pieces on the inside don't look good IMO.

So... not to be a dick but you "convinced" someone to let you sit in a car that'll be out soon... at an autoshow?

am i reading this right?

Guess for any test drives - they make you bring your own shift knob

Not bad, would really like to take one for a test drive. - hope they don't use one of those odd transmissions like my friend has in his 5spd 07 impreza... i'm not a fan of those.

The tranny is built by Aisin and if it is anything like the s2000 then we are good :)

i would like these if they had more power, i don't understand why they are not putting a turbo in them even in the sti version

Probably to save money, I think they are aiming for a good looking, rwd car that people can mod. Any input on aftermarket support yet?

not all cars need lots of power to be fun. Hell i had more fun driving my friends miata then my evo. Light car with decent power > heavy car with lots of power

That's the point of the car. Between the weight, the cog, and the suspension it should be a thrill to drive.

That's what it sounds like to me. And in the video you didn't show much of the car except for the front area. If we want to see what one looks like, we'll just go sit in it at the dealership when the get some in.

They are going to, they just don't all come out at the same time. This is also a new type of car for both Subaru and Scion so I am quite sure they want to see some favorable sales figures before expanding the lineup.

Very well put. This is a driver's car, not some idiotic dyno queen that many of the shallow fools on this site seem to worship. It is basically the same package as the Porsche 944 S2 I learned to drive stick on, 4 cyl, ~200hp, front engine rear drive, manual with lsd, and around 2700lbs. I can attest that this is a recipe for a brilliant driving machine, and I think this will be the perfect car for all performance driving schools to teach people on.

I am beyond excited for the BRZ/FRS

I am as well. In fact the Scion is hovering near the top of my list for a car to get after graduation this spring, in either this silver color, blue, or in black.

lownslow95--I only took video of the interior because I turned it on as soon as I sat down, basically. I did include still shots of the exterior as well, they are in the article itself.

SHOdude, I have been hearing about some companies outside the USA market showing a few parts already, including a turbo kit (don't hold me to that, I need to look again). The aftermarket is probably following the BRZ/FRS launch just as closely as, if not more than, people like us.

But don't you own one of those idiotic dyno queens that many of the fools on here?

its a backhanded way of advertising the blog IMO.

i disagree. I have a mazdaspeed miata and the thing blows. Needs more power. Not fun to drive at all.

I think it depends where you live... I drive on back roads 90% of the time... So I could see why owning a Miata or BRZ/FR-S would be fun. On the other hand, I imagine someone who spends most of their time on the highways, or very busy roads with intersections every 3 blocks, might not have fun in a car like this.

Love this car technically, but it looks fungly IMO. Reminds me of the...I barely want to say it...Hyundai Veloster? At least from the front.

I seem to remember S2ks having weak transmissions, at least with any considerable power behind them.

Gonna say this, first-hand encounter. Drove an S2000 that never went into 1st, HARD grind into 2nd, and the diff made all sorts of noise. Dunno what was done to it before, but facts are facts. And I remember my buddy (who has owned many s2000s) tell me the AP1 differentials were pure junk.

I'm sure it's not all, but back to this fugly BRZ lol

I'll be seeing a lot of these things around, I actually like it a lot..
the only thing that worries me is teenagers/the clueless trying to drift these things in traffic.
