View Full Version : Sti is out, Prius V is in. Playing the card I was dealt

Ok so in a nutshell, the STi took a dump. It was driving weird and I took it in to have it checked out. They opened up the diff and all this metal came out with the fluid. The repair bill was more than my parents were willing to pay so they decided to trade it in on a lease for a car that would not be driven as hard, and be very cheap.
They got me the Prius V you see below

Obviously I am pissed, but I still have my miata, and I have decided to make lemonade out of lemons. I plan to throw some Volk TE37s (powdercoated green) on it with bags to slam it and hella stance. It may not be fast but it sure as hell will be unique.
My friend made this to give you a rough idea

So look for it at the Sonic meet and others a few months from now, and I'll start a build thread once there is something more to post.

You could likely find a used diff on NASIOC for $500 or less... but I guess its too late at this point. Should have asked for info before you made that move!
I wouldn't mod your Prius... it is what it is and you'll get some sweet gas mileage so just drive the thing and focus modding on your Miata or elsewhere, or hey you could just start stacking up your savings.

Besides what everyone's said already.
You had an STi and your parents paid for it(basing this on the fact that they wouldn't pay to have it fixed and traded it on a Prius).so they trade it in on a this Prius and you want to ruin that too? Id of been thrilled if my parents bought me a car (which they did,but it was a 94 escort.)
Id of been happy if my parents just bought me a damn moped. Throw a light tint on the car and be happy. Then when you had your own money, maybe your parents will let you trade it in on something you'd really like(hopefully its no an STi that you'll kill)

So I won't make fun of your situation or anything, but why not save the 2-3k your gonna spend on your "bought-for-you" dd, and turbo your Miata or something. Surely it'd be more rewarding than slamming your leased Prius, right? And then in 2 or 3 years when the lease is up you actually have a fun car, and not a set of wheels sitting in your garage....if you have a car why did you need another one? If your set on doing something to the prius, maybe a cheap set of wheels on the stock suspension, and light tint/smoke tails and call it day?

Ok let me try to put this all into perspective here:
1. You own a Miata
2. Your parents buy you a STi
3. You break said STi
4. Your parents trade in the STi and LEASE you a Prius V
5. You somehow think that after breaking a STi, that modding a LEASED Prius V is a good idea. Say that a few times in your head: "Modding a Leased Prius." Sounds like a premise to a really bad Ernest movie: "Ernest Mods a Car", but I digress.
I have nothing against leases, I want to to lease a brand new car myself, but I am smart enough to know that if I am not 100% committed to buying the car when the lease is up, modding (aside from maybe some tints, and some type of sound system) is a bad idea. Especially when you bring that thing in for service, considering that most mods will void your warranty.
I think you need to grow up a little and get your priorities straight.

Despite what people are saying and your situation, I think the prius looks pretty damn good in the picture you posted. On a different note I would say that doing all of that on a leased car isn't the smartest idea. I would save for a little and pick up a 240sx or mod the miata. Either way it's your money so do what you want. Haters gon hate.

theres nothing wrong with modding a leased car. i see people mod them all the time with coilovers, lip kits, wheels, etc... as long as its something that can be removed and returned back to stock then it usually isnt a problem plus you can resell all the parts. yea you wont get as much as you like but that goes with modding in general, leased or not.

So then explain it to me. Because I know from experience that you can easily void your warranty by not modding your car properly. (by properly I mean licensed parts like NISMO or MOPAR being installed by the dealerships.)

This is the truth.
When I leased my car the guy told me I could do what ever I wanted on it, except change the color of the car. He even suggested I keep the stock parts to put back on before my lease ends, or that I could trade the car in with the aftermarket parts, but I would get very little, if anything compensated for.
They changed the law around a little bit for both, but most of the time, lease warranty's are a little different then when you are purchasing a car.
I can't imagine how much money your parents have if they refused to pay a repair cost on a car because they thought it was too high, so they leased a new car instead...

Your warranty can only be voided if the specific aftermarket part caused the part in question to fail. Ex, you can put a CAI on your car and have a crank pully go. The CAI does not have anything to do with the crank pully so they have to fix it under warranty.
Granted, many dealers will try and 'void' your warranty but they legally can't. It is a battle in court and probally not worth the money to fight it but you WILL win. The bottom line is that modded a new car that has its warranty is just plain stupid.

Yes that I understand, and that makes perfect sense. But I have heard about some BS happening. Like I know someone that has a Spec-V, it was an 03 Spec-V that has known issues that cause the engine to pretty much blow up. He put an after market header on the car to battle the one issue (failing pre-cat on the stock header), and it was about a week or 2 after he did that, the other huge issue these cars have (butterfly screws in the secondaries loosen themselves and get sucked into the engine) happened and destroyed his engine. Somehow the dealership blamed the failure on the after market header and wouldn't cover the cost of a new engine. Grant it this was years ago but still, you can't be too careful.
Pretty much you said what I was trying to say: If you have a new car under warranty, modding it is asking for trouble. The last thing you want to do is void the warranty on a leased car and be forced to cover any maintenance costs yourself. Just doesn't seem worth the risk, especially for a Prius.

Ill chime in on the warranty info...I had a heavily modded toyota celica (in highschool) in which the engine throw a rod...they tried to blame my coilovers, 19'' rims, tried saying i had nitrous on the car that was previously removed, that i altered the ecu so they couldnt see the last "action" of the car...so on and so on...you name it, they tried to blame it...(as far as saying my interior modifications of custom system changed the weight distribution of the car (are you serious?)
So i got a lawyer and went through the process of taking them to court (since the new motor was like 8gs) Just so happened my dads lawyer owned him a favor and he did it pro-Bono...
Well in a nutshell after about 2 1/2 months of bickering outside of court and right up to the day of court they were fighting the warranty claim...come the night before court, they settled and took full responsibility for the warranty claim...
Assholes!
The aftermarket part has to be the direct reason for failure to void warranty as sated above covered under the magnum moss warranty act...Although they fight that **** tooth and nail and take advantage of many people
but still BAGGING A LEASED PRIUS MUHWAHAHAHAHA, this **** is retarded, sounds like the apple doesnt fall to far from the tree in terms of ignorance gained from your parents
Not knocking you for having them buy you a car, hell my rents bought my first car and it was a pretty penny...I totaled it and that was the last of that ****, lol
But really, for you saying that your all into cars and ****, you could of easily fixed the STi, but yet your rents get you a lease? Epic Facepalm is in order my friend

ndubz represents how the education system has failed us.
Do away with the Department of Education. It's a colossal failure.

I think it is more like 90% of the people in this thread have proven how the education system has failed us. Seeing as to how we have reached page 5 now. An STi to a Prius......Really?
With the exception of a few decently smart people, most of you did indeed fall for this. You have been served a hilarious troll and I have been enjoying this for the whole day because of it. Thanks for the entertainment, I forgot how easy it was on here.

No, I'm pretty sure it proves that TST is full of people who take this website, and the internet as a whole WAY too seriously, and get off on being e-thugs.
The amount of anger in this thread is hilarious.

I want one for the Fam, won't lie- But I gotta be honest, would never consider it for my son. I'd rather him not drive, unless he's driving our's.
Good luck, just don't stare at the stupid mpg's all day like most pri-ass drivers do. Acceleration should be used when entering highways, and please for the love of god, dont brake ten miles ahead of actually needing to. :P

But this fact is what makes all your nonsense political thought. It all makes sense to me.
I'm not hating, I'd buy my 17 year old kid a STi if I could... and he has half a brain cell when the time comes.
