So I bought the car with a hacked up radio wiring harness. I figured I'd cut the whole thing out wire back in the connecters then wire the whole thing back in..simple right? WRONG First cut..(The three wires you see shorter then the others) My ENTIRE int. illumination dies, dome lights, ignition light, door lights, everything. what the hell happened?!?!

Maybe it has something to do with the aftermarket alarm?

Are you doing it with the battery connected?

One wire at a time makes it a lot easier lol

Yeah I tend to get a little impatient. I'm gonna disconect the battery tomorrow and go to town..

Check your fuses, and never do electrical while there is power.

^What he said except I do the same thing, not gonna lie (only with Radios). Also you never answered, Alarm? Yes, No?

That is most likely what those shorter wires are. Otherwise Manufacture did a real hack job.

so what you're saying is you cut all of those wires, at the same time, with the battery connected? Was the door open and the domelight on? was there something plugged into the cigarette lighter? Was the car on?

forget never doing any type of wiring with the battery connected, just dont do any type of wiring in your car.

All radio harnesses have a constant power wire in the harness. They also have an illumination wire for the dimmer and backlighting with the factory radio. More than one accessory can run through the power lines of the radio. Clock, dome light, instrument cluster illumination, etc. Check ALL your fuses. You probably blew a few. Also what kind of car is it? Year, make, model, i have access to full audio and electrical diagrams for most nearly all vehicles.

Not to sound like a ass.....but WOW.

I have ALWAYS atleast pulled the fuse for the radio, if not disconnected the battery.

No i didnt cut any of them away from the connecter thats how they were and its an 88 supra. I was going to cut them all out to wire them back into the connecter. And yea this is my first messing with wiring besides plug and go headunit adapters

turns out they were int. illumination. but they were already cut I just cut them down some more and it blew a fuse

I've always pulled my radios out without disconnecting the battery and what not. I have the ignition off, and my harnesses are never half asses so I don't worry about things shorting.

Don't think I've ever wired a radio with the battery unplugged. Ever. And I've done hundreds.

You blew the illumination/accessory fuse. No biggy, finish up your wiring and replace. Simple as that.

only three factory wires I use for any after market deck I put in my car, power, ground and remote. other than that, everything gets a higher gauge wire and the ground is optional, most of the time I make my own too.

I already did, just a couple of blown fuses, way less damage then I imagined, but someone jumped some of the fuses insted of going out and buying new ones so it looks like i'm gonna have to do that next
