View Full Version : H22 swap into a del sol, no power steering?

Well let me introduce myself and my situation. My name is kevin and I bought a del sol shell with a h22 swap that needs to be installed. I come from the DSM world where the only engine swap possible is just a bigger crank in the same block.

To my dismay the guy who sold this to me told me there is no option for power steering to hook up to a h22 in a del sol. Is that correct? I was planning on getting a h22 power steering pump and just making up AN lines with braided stainless steel lines and run them from the rack to pump/reservoir. Would this work or is there an easier way?

I plan on dropping the H22 in the car this weekend if time allows. The current power steering lines are cut at the rubber part right now so they aren't useable.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kevin

I don't know squat about Hondas but I'll take a stab at this:

I am sure you CAN get it too work, as your main problem probably lies in the position of the PS pulley. It most likely doesn't line up with the other pulleys. If the PS pulley is too far back then you will need to make a bracket or find some way to pull it forward to line it up with the rest of the pulleys. If it currently resides too far forward then you might be screwed, but I doubt that is the case.

Pictures might help.

That is the whole point of grabbing a h22 power steering pump, it should be in line with the other pulleys. The main question is are AN lines my best bet or has someone else figured out an easier way?

That doesn't mean squat. My Z31 has a VG33 in it and a VG33 PS pump won't just work without pushing the entire assembly forward. It SHOULD be in line, but it isn't. Just make sure it lines up properly first then you should be good to go. AN fitting are your best bet unless you know someone who can actually make custom lines.

You can get PS to work. I forget which bracket to use. Either a 4th or 5th Gen bracket And pump. They are different. So do research about that. My buddies did his

I dont see why you wont be able to get the PS to work. Only issue I see is that there might not be enough engine space to make it fit.

With my H22 swap, the crank pulley is almost directly under the frame rail. If I tried to use a belt on anything other than where the alternator belt goes, it would just rub against the frame rail. I am sure it could work with customizing. IMO, it is not worth it. Just leave P/S pulled out and loop the steering rack lines.

Or cut out part of the frame.

But thats too much work.

If your swap was that close to the frame then u had a weird mount kit or it was so long ago And it was on of the first mount kits. They don't have those problems anymore. Looping the power steering lines was stupid. There is too much play for my liking. It also puts too much stress on the steering knuckle at the bottom of the steering column. I had that knuckle actually come loose and skip over the teeth of the spline for the rack because of the constant force having to put on it. It very well could have killed me. So I'm against that ****.
