yup. bought a rs4. went 180 degrees from what i had initially intended.

truthfully i just could not find something i really loved. vipers are crap as much as i wanted to love them i couldnt. a 993 would have been too much effort.

so i got a rs4. the way i see it, its the master of nothing, but excels at everything. im loving it so far, but its far too stock. best part is i dont have to buy another car for winter like i did last year.

. just bought a GMG exhaust. a buddy has it on his 997gt2rs and its amazing. videos all sound great, at least much better than milltek.
tint next wednesday. and hopefully some pictures then as well.

rs4>c63 because i like 3 pedals.
rs4>isf because, well its a lexus.
rs4>m3 because everyone has a m3. not to mention it feels like a pig to me. i know that sounds ridiculous because the rs4 might actually weigh more (have no idea honestly) but everything about the audi feels better to me. the car drives smaller than it is, whereas the m feels big to me. i also prefer the audi interior more.

a 1m was in the running but both i located one, it sold from under me.

I dont think super concave (vossen) or the ones chris posted would fit that car well at all. I think something flush-ish with a small bit of concavity and a decent size tire (no super stretch) would be perfect. BBS LM-R would look amazing, or ADV 5.0 or 5.2 would look unbelievable IMO. If you are interested in ADV's give me a call, we were one of their first customers with our Gallardo and they tend to give me really nice pricing. also, they sent me an email not long ago looking to blow out some wheels they had in stock, i will see if i can find the message.

ordered the front fork off a cbr600. heres a pic with the tank in place. bike isnt sitting properly in the pic as its going to be angled forward a lot more so the rear will be kicked up like a modern sport bike. its basically a street fighter made from an old cafe racer frame/motor

Does the tank have the pounded in for your knees like a lot of cafe bike tanks? If so it would look cool if you would paint the tank black leave the knee bare metal and pin stripe white around them and clear the whole thing

the whole chassis will be set up for me. as for gold flake and that type of thing.. not my style but it certianly has its place. this bike will be minimalist. i was just chatting with the guys at the shop about what we are gonna do with the rear cowl and seat. my girlfriend makes mens bags from vintage leather/cloth so shes going to make it her mission to find the right piece of leather for the seat.

the idea of the bike is cafe racer meets street fighter.

Loving this cafe/fighter project! I've had bikes/quads my whole life and worked at a dealer selling them for about 7 years.. Been dieing to do a Cafe' build! Or a triumph bobber.

I see your on the right track w/ Inverted forks / radial mount brakes, going Mono shock and wanting the rear end up higher (looks more aggressive). Def. check out BCR website http://www.benjiescaferacer.com/parts.php They have a tank/tail section that's killer along with a lot other sick shiz! The Carbon tank in white with the kneed section raw would be the hotness.

You going as far as having the forks redone and aftermarket rear shock set to your weight? Frame color?

I've seem the be his stuff before.. It's cool and all, but doesn't really fit with my bike. I do love the csrbon fiber tank, but withe all the custom work I'd hate to just slap a normal tankonitandcall it's day.

Forks are i god shape so no no need to rebuild the unless we decide they aren't valves correctly. The motor is actually mint but it's getting rebuilt
. The whole bike is being setup for my height and weight. Colors haven't been finalized yet but I'm thinking powdercoat the frame satin black, and the tins will be carerra white.

not much of an update.. cl]olor changed slightly, and i think this time will be perminant... gonna do a flat pearl white, and matte black frame. might add some sort of stripe on the tank, but the idea is clean and simple.

no real prgress as finding a swingarm to fit the bsa frame is proving to be a challange, but we will figure it out. motor has been test fit, only picture i have is terrible so its not worth posting. i keep finding myself every day looking at riding gear, and still gathering ideas for details like the oil tank and headlight. there will be no speedo, tach, turn signals. will be a kickstart only.

Hide the speedo or tach in your headlight bucket. If this is your first bike, and with an engine as temperamental as an old Tri's, you'll appreciate having at least the tach if for nothing else than helping to make the on-the-fly fueling corrections that come with riding an old bike like this.

not really all that worried about the motor. its being completely torn down and rebuilt. i agree a polished frame would be wild, they are actually building a triton at this shop that has a polished frame. but i want something stealth. most of the motor will be black, with no chrome or polished bits at all. exhaust will be coated or heat wrappe. no bling at all so to speak. i like both bikes you posted above. im going to be using a whiskey leather color for the seat so that silver/black/brown bike has a few elements i like to it. i like the black/white one above too, so simple

frame is a 63 bsa 75 triumph 750. first year that left foot controls were mandatory from what i can gather. i didnt want to deal with anything older. the bike is going to be different enough.

funny thing is i cant decide what to call the bike.. is it a triumph, or is it a BSA. motor and trans are triumph, tank and frame are bsa. disregard the cbr600 triple tree as i would never call it a honda. i i think i want it to be a triumph.. but is it?

Name it after the powertrain. No matter what, it still has a Triumph's leaky and lovable heart. It's like a reverse Tribsa, but I don't think Asbirt (or Assburt) really fits, haha.

So the swing arm has been sourced from a 1987 Honda cbr600. The frame is off to a frame shop to make sure it's straight, and the motor is being torn down and rebuilt. Progress is good

Swing arm and remar shock were sourced from another Honda and a ktm super duke. Frame is off to a shop in new Hampshire to be welded up straightened ect.


I'm bored of the Audi already. Not sure what to do... I really should keep it at least through the winter I guess. Hoping the bike is all the raw fun I need. My house is for sale too.

Good size great location and literally 150 yards from the restaurant I manage. You can't argue with that commute. Saves literally hours from my already long week.

To put it further in perspective, a parking space in the building I rent mine in sells for 40k and has a hoa fee of like 100 a month. A deeded outdoor parking space adds like 30k+ to a home's value. An outdoor space sold for 300k a mile away from my place two years ago.

if you do not want to go with a blower, I just confirmed fitment of my LP550/560 exhaust on the V10 R8 ;) it sounds MEAN! The car is amazing isnt it! Its exactly like a LP560 with more creature comforts and def. more suitable (refined) for a "mom" if you know what I mean.

Swing arm and remar shock were sourced from another Honda and a ktm super duke. Frame is off to a shop in new Hampshire to be welded up straightened ect.


I'm bored of the Audi already. Not sure what to do... I really should keep it at least through the winter I guess. Hoping the bike is all the raw fun I need. My house is for sale too.

Never for the rs4... Working on convincing my mother she wants the stasis supercharger. 710hp is awesome, however 35k is harder to justify.. Does have a factory warranty though. Time will tell. The wheels are in motion there

That was the noble. But I had crazy reliability issues with it. Couldn't even wash the car without it stalling out for two days.

It's a commitment to dd one. I drove an exige through a winter, on snow tires. Doable but not ideal. As for dd duties, any damage to the body leans towards totaling type expenses ( clams can be 10k+). Ingress egress is tough as is visibility as a driver, and to others on the road.... Like riding a motorcycle. I could go on, but I love it too much.

lol yea those are cool. aparently lotus voids your warranty if you wash it incorrectly. the paint needs to be cared for some crazy way. seems stupid to me.

Theres a guy that lives around the way that DD's his lotus elise, Saw him sliding around a couple times in the rain lol, but I agree with the previous statement It's like riding a motorcycle or a go-kart. Not very practical to if you have to fit anything big in the trunk but fun as hell, I think height might be an issue if your big, not so much as fitting in it but getting in and out

For serious though.. I've driven plenty of cars and I've yet to find anything under 100k that I'd rather be in. So since I can't swing a 997gt3 rs the exige is the next best bet

guy wants to trade me a starlight black elise with hardtop carbon fiber lip, carbon fiber engine bay cover, von hep exhaust and rear panel delete, and a supercharger for my rs4 plus 11,000

so my mod list is already started

carbon fiber rear diffuser
tillet carbon fiber seats (to replace tan leather)
either recover the leather door cards in suede, or buy carbon fiber ones.
recover center console in suede or buy a carbon fiber one (see a theme here?)
destripe the car, currently has yellow/silver race stripes.
tint windows
wheels. trying to find wheels again, might have a line on a set of ccw.
HIDS and LED taillight conversion.

all that right there is like 11k. the car has a supercharger on it now, makes 250hp. its upgradable to 300+ but that can wait until tax return comes in. 250 is a bit less than my exige had, but its also lighter than my exige, and will be another 20lbs lighter with just the cf seats alone, not to mention how much lighter when i get better wheels on it. so the power will be fine for now. also will do a set out nitron or ohlins coilovers in the future.

yea, all stuff that doesnt matter to me. i dont need 4 seats let alone 4 doors. heated seats has been nice, but i dont need it. nor will i miss navi as i have an iphone for that.

i bought the rs4 after a bad experience with my noble. i figured a big awd heavy sedan would keep me from spending money on mods and ultimately id put a few more bucks away, all while having a nice respectable automobile. an exhaust and tint, it looks nice. but does nothing for me

skip the Elise I say... you keep getting cars that you sell KNOWING what you SHOULD have... porsche turbo. You keep buying and selling, probably losing money every time looking for the perfect car when it was at your parents house the entire time! I have done more of them than I can count and all it takes is full exhaust (headers, HJS's, mufflers) BRV's, and a good tune and you are at 600+ hp 615-620tq with 3.2 0-60 in a car that HAS heated seats, AWD, power that will scare the **** out of most people and a car that girls wont hate riding in.

What do you want for the Audi? 45-50? a 996 turbo can be had for that or less! And I can hook you up with the bolt on's at wholesale cost.. 997tt was out of my price range. also would be kinda obnoxious for someone my age to drive a car like that. 996tt is off the table because its the ugliest Pcar ever. i dont even consider them 911s. i feel that strongly about it haha.

got a quote for the seats already, 2900 shipped. gonna have a local shop do the upholstry work. still waiting to hear back about other random cf parts. found a set of te37 but the offset sucks. has that awful flat face look to them, so im gonna pass.

car is making 225whp at 1900lbs. it will shed a few more pounds shortly. rev310 kit is the ultimate goal once my bank acct recovers a bit from the past year of car buying/selling

i figure by the time the check clears, and im back in a lotus, it will have been rouhgly a 12k error ever leaving it.


in other news, the bike will be registered as a 196X BSA. this way i dont need turn signals or a speedo, which is nice because i dont intend on having either, or a fuel gauge or tach.

you knoow, i thought the same thing. but with the amount i drive, and the way i intend on using the bike, a lotus and bike suit my needs better than the audi. i honestly cant imagine going from riding the bike as raw as that is, and getting into something comfy. id be bored to death. the lotus also gives me a platform to modify. the rs4, basically wheels coilovers and a supercharger are the only options. and a blower is 20k. hardly seems worth it to me for a 3900lbs car.

im 27. no need for a beater or daily driver. the lotus served daily driver status even through a boston winter. this time, i will just sign up for zip car if i need something larger or need to get somewhere in bad weather condiitons.

i live in the city. public transportation is blocks from my condo, i actually live 100 yards from the restaurant i manage. i drive less than 10k miles a year. girlfriends are all small. i have my groceries and dry cleaning delivered. and my condo ( at least now until this place sells) is brand new so its not like im going to home depot for plywood.

and yea the r8 is wild. her last car was a 997tt, so shes a pretty hip mom. funny as my local forum has a spotted section and shes been noticed more in the last month or so in the r8 than she ever was in the turbo. there were 2 white turbos in their neighborhood! same guy had a blue 997s when my mom had that prior to her turbo, and when she got the turbo, hegot one.. but he also has a e92 m3 a 1series m, a gtr and a gti... all in white. all on BBS wheels.

its bascially a memebership car sharing program. they have spaces and cars all over the city, and you go online and reserve one like you would a rental car. but its done by the hour. you carry insurance, and you get a mileage and gas allowance. so as an example in my neighborhood there are like 6 cars. they range from a mini to a a3 to a tacoma.just book your time slot online, and pick the car up at the designated space. you have a rfid tag to get in the car and the keys are left in it. pretty cool program

Having had an exige already, I don't see the difference truthfully. I thought about that a lot. I'm getting a ridiculous deal, and this Elise will preform as well and look as mean as any exige. Weighs like 200lbs than an exige. Goal is 1800 even.:wink:

With proper wheels, new interior, tint syripe delete the hardtop and and aggressive diffuser it will be mean. If I can keep it long enough, some bodywork is in order too....

1800 is the goal. The supercharger kit I'm ultimately upgrading to is 310hp, so like 280whp.

Had a chance to finally drive my lotus. I honestly forgot just how fun these cars are. I think the tune needs work, smells pretty rich but it pulls hard.

Guy had upgraded the speakers and head unit. Audio still blows but a new head unit is all I will do there.
The non probax seats really do suck. A remedy is on the way.
Needs sound deadening like the touring package cars get.. On the firewall. This needs to be addressed.
Stripes are awful, and the car is filthy. Paint seems to be in good shape. Alex will let me know for sure on Monday, and tint.
Needs HIDs. the ones in my exige were great and really cheap. Weren't a true projector setup,but they did the job. Would ultimately lie the factory LED taillights too.
Rotas are hideous. New wheels on the way.
Ultimately more power, better suspension and brakes will be needed.

After reading this entire thread, I just have a comment I felt must be made.

Please do not learn how to ride a motorcycle (especially a street driven one) on a $15k, 750cc bike (if that is the final engine size you end up going with). For the sake of all that is right in the world, even if money is just toilet paper, please do not do this. What I recommend, and I am serious, is to go and buy a cheap Ninja 250 or something comparable, and ride that for at least a month. Hell, after your done you could piss on it, blow it up, throw it off a bridge, give it to me, etc etc, and get on with the $15k bike.

I don't mean any disrespect, but I just couldn't stop thinking about that and I just do not feel that what your about to do is right. I've had too many friends injured on bikes, and way, way to many have their lives taken by them.

well i was "spotted" on another forum so i figured i might as well use their pic as its the only one i have.

stripes deleted, windows tinted and detailed.

still waiting for the diffuser, seats, wheels, HIDs, to show up. ordered up new grilles for the front too. the former owner bought the right mesh grilles for the radiator, but did an odd DIY situation for the center grille, and didnt bother replacing the oil cooler grilles. so now it will all match perfectly.
the wheels is a funny story. lotus USA had 3 of them in the warehouse in atlanta, and had to order the 4th from england. so im waiting for it to get shipped to atlanta then a 3 day wait to get it to boston.
seats are held up in customs. lame.
diffuser should be in from CA tomorrow, luckily that was in stock. no wait time from england for that.

grilles are in the mail. guy got in a bad car accident so im just impressed he was even able to ship them out
seats are boxed up and ready to ship. too bad paypal froze my acct. guess a few grand through it in a week raised a few red flags, and now the money for the seats has to hit my account before paypal will relese the funds.
still waiting on the HID kit to ship.
in a group buy for tons of carbon fiber interior parts. matte finish for the a/c surround, center console, rear cupholder thing, and door pulls. parts will be delivered in may.

good news is the diffuser is in, and i installed it yesterday. looks mean. wheels will be in by tuesday.

still need to find oem leather and alcatera door cards. need to order a new headunit and sirius adapter.

then comes the big money parts....

New lip is in the mail. Still needs exige style side scoops, head unit. HID kit goes in tomorrow. Trying to fid an upholstery shop to wrap my console and AC surround to match the doors

Yea I get it. Wheel options are crazy limited to the point where rota torque is one of the only available wheels. These also weight 11.5 and 13 lbs. They may eventually become some absurd color

They are great, better than stock. I love them. I know a guy who has severe back issues after a motorcycle accident. The only way he can drive his lotus is in this seat. It's that supportive. The relax the back store should carry tillet seats :mrgreen:

Looks like a reflector? Would be pretty sweet if it was a turn signal lol. The front has amber ones as well.

3k for the chairs and brakets. Red and amber are reflectors. Long term goal for the car involves serious body work ( shaving the license plate plinth, filling front clam seam, deleting turn signal pods and adding small led signals, deleting side reflectors)

HIDs really helped out. Much better visibility. Funny part was lotus designed the lights with tabs to convert from RHD to LHD just by raising or lowering a tab. Mine were in RHD mode, go figure.

Thanks. She's pretty hip. 54 and drives a red 6 speed r8. Ultimate goal is a stasis blower.. She's not sure if 710hp is " neccesary" but likes that it retains a warranty.

Lotus headed to the shop tonight to have the rest of the grilles installed ( replacing ugly factory vents and PO makeshift grille). The exige style side scoops should be done by Saturday, and I'll try to tackle that job myself.

stole my moms r8 to have the fabspeed exhaust installed. 6 hours or so later, it just unreal. now it has the exotic sound to match its looks. video and pics to come. big thanks to david for hooking me up with such a good deal on such a killer exhaust. shaved like 35lbs off the car, and the quality of the welds ect is spot on.

also got my lotus back. grilles and lip are on. looks sweet. the scoops should be in tomorrow, and im gonan atempt that myself. had the stereo done as well. alpine headunit and that new mini 4chanel amp. sounds decent. needs a sub next i think. sucks ill be adding weight. full bluetooth control of pandora ect which is dope. fun to play with.
setting up a lotus photoshoot once the scoops are on. ill post a before (when i got the car) and after. its come a long way in a very short amount of time.

Lotus was backed into. Front clam is cracked but at least I saw it happen and got the guys info. Gonna be a 10k fix.

Depending on the timeframe I'll either buy a new clam, or have some fun with this ones repair... Deleted turn signals, filled in body line. Fill in the front emblem. And while that's being done, do a new rad, ss brake lines and something about the oil cooler lines. All of which require a " clam off" service to begin with.

heres the update ive been waiting for

went to see the bike today. had the rear sets fit. the bike is crazy comfortable. discussed the rear cowl and seat, as well as the exhaust. he has 30 days or so to finish it up in time for the bike show he wants to bring it to.
but the best part is today is the first day its been on the ground. the stance is perfect, exactly what i wanted it to look like.

as for my car.. no progress with the insurance company, i guess the adjuster got sick and now they are reassigning my claim which is good of them. very happy so far with how it is being handled.

Little update.

Lotus was backed into while a neighbor was parallel parking. Took this opportunity to do some custom work. The clam will be repaired, and I'm paying to have the front seam, and turn signals filled in, and have turn signals added to the factory headlight housings. Also had the chance to have the side scoops installed

And as for the bike. We are working on the exhaust right now. I ordered a muffler that came in today, fits a Yamaha r6 lol.
Ti and a pushrod motor should sound cool. It's tiny, and weighs under 4lbs maybe even less.
