I have done ALOT of research on volkswagens especially the mk3 golf/gti's. I get a whole bunch of mixed reviews. I know all the main problems, rust spots, what to look for etc etc. I have seen a few that I like. Im looking at the 2.0 8v golf/gti. So my main question here is. Are they really THAT unreliable? I hear they are a hit or miss type of car but figure I would ask on here if there is any awesome VW experts lol, thanks

2.0 8v's are ****ing solid.

i had a cammed 0bd1 2.0, that was perky
then a chipped obd2 2.0, slow, but reliable and fun.

neither car ever gave me issue, other than the 2nd needing a quick tune up (plugs, wires, cap, rotor) and it was fine

Nice yeah, the two I am considering are in decent condition, one high miles, one has semi low miles but. I think im going to just bite the bullet and do it and see what the outcome is. Lol anyone else feel free to chime in

VWs are reliable if the previous owner was meticulous about upkeep and maitenance.
Gonna be tough finding that rare gem, start gettin info on Vortex if you havent done that yet.

VW's are solid man. I'm on vortex also just under a different name. I've had 2 20th AE's and I would never get rid of the one I have now. Keep your head in the engine, make sure the belts have had their necessary maintenance, and you'll be fine. I've never noticed rust problems on VW's compared to most other cars.

You looking for low miles? What's your budget? I know a few people who are trying to move theirs.

Lol I wouldn't sell mine. I don't even think I could put a price tag on the work I've put into mine. :(
